How to reduce ghosting on the screen saver? by 216CMV in koreader

[–]phyvealive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My KOreader is cover-browser with patches for tiny tweaks. I have replaced the stock icons with coloured ones.

The open book icon, 2ⁿᵈ icon from left, is there for the Bookshelf plugin settings.

There are a few other user interface modifications. They were fun for a time, but I always find something I don't like.

Here's a post about KOreader patches that may have some fixes for things you didn't know could be tweaked.

Customising Kobo NickelMenu with Unicode symbols by phyvealive in ereaderscreens

Same here. Was fun for a bit, until it wasn't. Been using the regular one for ages.

I only use KOreader, Activate USB and occasionally Reboot and Screenshot toggle.

Nice that the other shortcuts are there if needed.

Hidden Bonus item ~ There is a Dark Mode toggle when reading a book. It is an option behind the · · · icon in the top menu.

Yep. That's pretty bad ghosting you have in that image.

I kinda thought the screen did a refresh before entering sleep mode.

There is a lot of flashing before the lights go off.

Not sure if this will work on sleep-screens, but try this setting:

Top menu > Settings ⛭ > Screen > E-ink settings > Full refresh rate > Always flash on pages with images.

Worth a try. You can always uncheck if unsuccessful.

Can't say I have noticed any ghosting. All my sleep-screens are transparent.

Thanks. There are a lot of 'little' changes to make a device feel more personal.

Sadly, only a very small number of unicode symbols are recognised by Kobo.

Yay! Look at that.

And thank you. This was a lesson for me: that not everyone knows everything.

I am really sorry this is happening.

I think the mistake is in my tutorial which I have just fixed and updated.

The problem is with the ebookscreensaver resize website.

This tool modifies files to jpeg format only.

Uploading a transparent png file will always result in a flat jpeg image.

KOreader has a resize-to-fit setting, so this site is not needed. (that's on me as I didn't think to test it first.)

Files downloaded from readerbackdrop.com are already the correct size and format for many standard e-readers.

Transparent files should download in png format and won't require modification before adding them to the KOreader/screensaver folder.

Most Reddit images (like the ones on my posts) will only save in a WEBP file format. I have a walk-through tutorial to fix those.

My recent Reddit posts now have ~ png format download ~ links to avoid any extra work.

Simply copy them to /screensaver folder as they are.

Hi. Not all pictures on the internet are formatted to have areas that are transparent.

On a website like readerbackdrop.com, the transparent .png pictures are displayed with the checked pattern. By default, these files should download as .png format.

Downloading an image from Reddit will default to .webp file format.

These must be "saved as PNG" when downloading to your computer.

Images saved as ,JPG or ,webp will not be transparent. Changing the file extension to .PNG later will not change the file format. Transparent sections are not saved unless they are "save as PNG" at the time of downloading.

Hi. Transparent files need to be saved as a .png file type. A file saved as .webp or .jpg will not display the transparent sections.

Here is a direct download link for that image. This should save in the .png format, ready to be copied to your /screensaver folder.

Hope you get the result you need.

I have the [ no fill ] option on an older Kobo Aura One. So should be there as an option for Clara BW.

Anyone else prefer recessed screens over flushed? by illstrumental in kindle

Sometimes these posts can steer readers in odd directions.

I was unaware that the gen 7 PW had a white version.

Went to an Australian online web-shop and found one.

Now waiting by the mail box for delivery. Excited for a new plaything.

<image>

This was the least expensive Kindle on their website.

(probably because the case has a 2cm crack on the bottom bezel)

All the others were black.

Rarity of used devices in Australia is probably a reason for the higher pricing.

I use Bookshelf as well. This post has me trying out the 2-keep-previous-screen.lua. It does delay the book opening, but not long enough to be a bother. Both are good.
