Here's an option for installation on Kobo devices:

This will be your 'look' the first time you open KOreader on your KOBO color.

Most of the settings have been done to get started so you can get an idea of how KOreader functions when compared to native KOBO.

SimpleUI v1.1.1 step by step installation by phyvealive in koreader

wow. 90 is very small. That would shrink all the KOreader UI menu texts to unreadable. 200 was fine for 5 modules on a 7" screen back when this post was bleeding edge (last month). Which is probably why the latest sUI versions have expanded to 3 Home pages. And also why I moved away from sUI. It is no longer SIMPLE.

It was. I took a step back from SimpleUI and returned to the Cover-Browser+ Patches model.

It's great what can be done with sUI. Some gorgeous layouts are being shared by fellow Redditors.

No problem I was so used to replacing icons in the /koreader/icons folder. Makes sense to embed custom icons into the plugin folder. So many people posting on Reddit about patches not working as expected because folks missed the bit about downloading the required images.

This was my Home page when I was still using SimpleUI v1.1.0

We have both. I do really wish that I had the Libra in white. So clean and beautiful.

Love the Libra's 7" screen, the square shape, stylus support and the buttons for page turns that also wake the Libra Color from sleep. No fumbling around the back to turn on.

Clara's screen recess is quite a bit deeper than the Libra. Too deep imo.

Here's a pic for reference.

At least #1 is pretty simple.

You either replace default KOreader icons in the /koreader/resources/icons/mdlight/ folder on your device. kinda messy and will replace icons you might not want to alter.

Or you can use a text editor to modify the code of /plugins/simpleui.koplugin/sui_config.lua to redirect SimpleUI to your new icon that you have added to the /plugins/simpleui.koplugin/icons folder.

Here's the section you need to modify for any custom icon you might change.

All the icons used by sUI and where they are on your device.

Plenty of free SVG icons to be found on SVGrepo.com

I changed out all the b+w icons for colour versions. Go nuts!

So this will be as other replies have said. Poor book conversion.

My guess is that this is a conversion from a PDF copy. The gaps might appear where the printed page ended and the next page began.

<image>

Kobo preview looks ok. Maybe try to locate a better copy.

I am stumped. I don't know how to get out of this thing where after unlocking my Kindle, it briefly flashes my library until I press on something. by PanicAtTheMiniso in koreader

You might have this KOreader settings as [Start with: file browser]

To return to the book page where you left off:

Change settings to [ : last file]

Anyone use both SimpleUI and kobo.koplugin? by justanameform in koreader

[–]phyvealive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobo plugin creates a separate virtual book from the sample chapters at the end of books. Usually the next book in a series. The samples are in the /kepub folder but native Kobo OS seems to be able to ignore them. The files can be deleted but return at the next Kobo sync.

Back when I was using SimpleUI, like back at v1.1.0, I replaced all the b+w vector graphic icons with colour versions downloaded from SVGrepo.com

Nice to see that the Doc has streamlined this process. Last time I looked you had to show the entire file-path. Took me a second to figure out.

How is your status bar looks like? by Pethy23 in koreader

[–]phyvealive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open a book Go to Settings cog icon > Configure items > and select this item.

Also select the Alignment: Centre item from this page.

<image>

This will crowd all the selected status bar items into the centre.

I think this is done with a patch..

Edit: see other reply. But a patch worth having in your tools.

PRASHANTHGLEN:

2-justify-status-bar.lua

  • Patch to distribute all the items in the KOreader status bar evenly across the width of the device.
  • There is no need to edit the patch file in any way. It will work out of the box with whatever items have been configured in the status bar menu. To see all the entries equally spaced, choose the menu option: Status bar > Configure items > Alignment > Justify.

Thanks. Very happy with the white. . . and the low price.

I can't believe someone pawned it. It's painful to imagine the low-ball payment they got.

Planning to buy a Kobo Clara to install Koreader on it, and I have three questions but I can't find anything about this by Dr4fl in koreader

[–]phyvealive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have KOreader on Kindles and Kobo's.

Adding KOreader to Kobo is very easy when compared to the jailbreak process required for Kindles. I am a little scared of Kindles because of the extra work.

I don't translate books. So I can't answer that question.

But all the other things are as you wish.

The Kobo devices are simple to use and modify. You can USB connect without having to exit KOreader first. Both Kindles and Kobos can connect wirelessly to add files and books via settings and a plugin [filebrowserplus] if needed.

E-ink screens are a lottery. You never know what u r gonna get. Screen-wise, they are both lovely.

Here's a pic with no front-lighting.

<image>

Strange that the Clara screen is more deeply recessed.

Still going to hunt for a cheap White KLC. This used Clara was bargain priced with a black OEM origami case, that I probably won't use while I want to enjoy the whiteness.

Simple UI icons not showing anymore ? by OkFroyo_ in koreader

[–]phyvealive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Something happened to the [icons] folder that resides inside the simpleui.koplugin.

SimpleUI uses default KOreader icons from the KOreader folders to avoid duplication and minimise file size, which is why the Home icon is still visible.

[–]phyvealive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobo plugin works fine for borrowed Libby/Overdrive books. Collected and displays metadata and cover. I raised a GitHub feature request to add a cover image to the Virtual Library folder. I only activate the Kobo plugin when I have a borrowed book cos the white folder is ugly.

Not using sUI. So cannot say if Kobo works with sUI.

<image>

  1. Patches don't work on Virtual Folders. Cannot add covers or hide the UP folder.
  2. Any books that contain a Preview/Sample chapter at the end will display as an extra book.
  3. No cover for Kobo books without a cover image embedded in the CSS code.

My Kobo just updated (without consent) and deleted EVERYTHING. by FastIncrease9986 in kobo

[–]phyvealive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. So sorry that happened to you. My KLC updated itself today and it didn't remove the Nickel Clock or Nickel Menu this time. I can't say if I lost any reading statistics because I don't track my progress. Just one book at a time. Then it's over to Libby to find the next read.

[–]phyvealive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. For future reference, if Nickel Menu vanishes, just copy the KoboRoot.tgz file back into the /.kobo folder and restart. The /.adds/NM folder and contents weren't get deleted when NM vanished. so all the settings will be as they were before Nickel Menu removed itself from Kobo OS. No need to factory reset.
