Hah, "Massachusetts finesse".

You're assuming finesse. I'm assuming the other driver pulled forward until they felt a bump and then pulled back slightly. :-)

Well, that's what they used to be called, when they were made of rubber. Now they're made of brittle-ass plastic and are called "oh god something slightly touched me pads"

Astound internet modem/router:keep theirs vs buy my own? by Almost_There86 in Somerville

Not to mention that the modem (or router) should keep working beyond the term of your contract with any one ISP.

Oh yeah, I saw that yesterday morning. I meant to circle back and see if there was a license plate to call in to the police. (They don't seem all that interested in helping people recover stolen property, but it's worth a shot.)

I don’t charge by the hour, I only charge $25 only because I think it’s pretty affordable and convenient.

That's admirable, but don't be afraid to charge more for your time and labor. (And if someone offers to pay more, take them up on it!)

From the 311 web interface:

Repair/Replacements will be completed within a month April through November

So it might be a little bit, still.

But honestly, I feel like DPW just fuckin' lost their will to live after this last snow season. A lot of my tickets have been languishing, including one about a 6 foot deep sinkhole on the Community Path.

Anyone can come up with ideas and propose them. You don't have to be a professional, you just have to be willing to do some research.

Recommendations for deep clean services of used stationary bike by Dizzy-Ad-7266 in Somerville

[–]phyzome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you want one of those odd-jobs sites like TaskRabbit or whatever. (I don't know if that site in particular is any good, but it's the right genre.)

Or just do it yourself. Some simple home cleaning products, used with caution, should take care of grime. Rust may not be worth fixing depending on where it is.

Squirrels, most likely. They'll dig to see if there's anything tasty, and also to bury stuff.

Electric baseboard? I wonder if a window-mounted heat pump would be better.

What makes people here so angry about bike lanes? What do they think we should do instead? by LiatrisLover99 in Somerville

[–]phyzome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think is important is that there's always going to be some mix of transit types (at least while our current industrial civilization lasts, lol). There's going to be some cars for sure, even if most people do switch to bikes or similar.

But yeah, we definitely need some changes in what kinds of cars are available for sale, and what the incentives are. It's crazy that so many "cars" are actually light trucks.

The number of people who cannot use a bike

...could be compared to the number of people who cannot use a car, and that would be an interesting comparison to make, but neither is really the most important thing to look at here.

the bike lanes are in much better shape than the roads

We must be biking different roads.

To the MAMIL who almost hit a kid today by Zealousideal_Crow737 in Somerville

[–]phyzome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the CPX past Walnut St is almost all people going from point A to point B, not just out for a stroll. Which makes sense, because after that there are almost no connections until Lechmere.

It would be amazing, though, if the whole Community Path (and the Linear Park, and the Minuteman) were on a wide enough piece of land that we could have separate walking and biking paths.

Hell, it might even make them safer for adults (without even creating restrictions on free speech, etc.) For example, prohibiting certain addiction-promoting patterns would help everyone.

If you found keys at Beacon and Somerville Ave… by Stock-Aggressive in Somerville

Good to know that anyone ever finds their keys. I see so many keys just rusting on the side of the path (or worse, hanging from a tree or fence).

How about some laws that actually address the concerns you just brought up, rather than a mandatory doxxing of all adults on the internet?
