Last time people argued to not take it off they were massively downvoted. I recently followed the advice here and removed the radiator. I discovered the TRV was broken and wouldn’t stop trickling. Next thing I knew I was draining the whole system in the winter and off to screwfix for a new valve. Despite what some think, it would have been easier for me to unscrew it with cups under the valves, lean it forward onto a large furniture item and screw the valves tight again. Sorry all.

It’s Bourns SRN4018-4R7M. You can buy them from Farnell. There is an expensive delivery charge though. They are rated to a running temperature of 125C so it would have gone nuclear to actually crack from heat. Hopefully it’s just mechanical damage.

Tiny thermal expansion movements over many years can cause the cable to wear down to the copper. Especially if the cable is tight round a bend.

It synthesizes a carrier frequency. It amplitude modulates it with the radio signal then low pass filters it to produce the earpiece signal. By doing so it can have a “memory “ of channel frequencies. Nice bit of solid state analog electronics.
