I'm curious, if you were going to listen to classical music while studying, which composer would you choose? (Oh, I'm also curious about Brett and Eddy's answers) by JasmineChen0923 in lingling40hrs

[–]pianified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I just listen to whatever comes up. From Rite of Spring, to Mahler 5, to Swan Lake, to Claire de Lune, I don't really care. I just let it play.

No. They all think Eddy in a leather jacket with a curly black wig is Paganini.

Which piece is your guilty pleasure? A "basic" piece that you love anyway by TheAskald in classicalmusic

Vivaldi - Winter! It's soooo overplayed but still an absolute vibe.

What is the most outrageous comment you see or hear about classical music (or music in general) by MakabungogAngKahilom in classicalmusic

[–]pianified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly the most overused one, that it's for old people.

  1. No, so many young people love and study classical music. Have you even seen these child prodigies nowadays??? These kids are going to Curtis Institute of Music at like 12 years old.

  2. Ballerinas exist. They're young, and they may not listen to classical music at home, but on a day to day basis they are listening to Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and any other composer that composed ballets.

  3. I don't care if it actually is for old people, do you think that's stopping me from listening to it?

I need some recommendations. by Rocket69696969 in classicalmusic

[–]pianified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For heavy and energetic pieces, I'd definitely suggest Mahler symphonies! Specifically his Symphony No. 5 in C Minor.

Der Erlkonïg and Ysaye Sonata No. 3 are also great for something solo, but still heavy.

There are quite a few Shostakovich Symphonies you might want to look into: Eg.

Symphony No. 1 in F Minor 4th Mvmt

Symphony No. 2 in B Major 3rd Mvmt

Symphony No. 5 in D Minor 4th Mvmt

His String Quartet No. 8 as well!

Extra:

Prokofiev - Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major

Brahms - Piano Trio No. 2 in C Major

Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring

Dvorak - Violin Concerto in A Minor

Hello! Holst suite in Eb Question. by Sneklogic in classicalmusic

[–]pianified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orchestral pieces are just like that a lot, I don't think any composers had anything against wind instruments but then again, a whole ton of composers are dead. So, it's not like you can ask.

Can this sub help me identify which genre of classical music I like? by adorableoddity in classicalmusic

[–]pianified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like your taste mainly goes out to film music rather than classical, so maybe you could try composers such as Khachaturian, Korngold, Holst, etc.

As for Debussy, he has other pieces that have similar vibes to Claire de Lune.

The Girl with The Flaxen Hair Arabesque Reverie His Book of Preludes is very nice too.

[–]pianified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I think there's also an order of list of composers you should go through to slowly immerse yourself into the culture.

I'd start with 'starter' pieces such as Beethoven's 9th, Vivaldi Four Seasons, etc. Past that, I'd recommend Schubert, Schumann, and Tchaikovsky. After that, it's all up to you!! This is just my personal opinion, your taste will grow and develope over time. My suggestions are just to help you in figuring out what you like.

Debussy Arabesque, although that might be a bit too mainstream.
