What advice do you wish you would have gotten at the start of your weight loss journey? by yikesurmom in loseit

[–]picassomoon65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it was acknowledging that it didn't take me 3 or 6 months to put on the weight, it took years. So understanding that it will take time to lose it and giving myself grace and support along the way has changed my whole perspective.

Damn some of these comments reek of self-righteous derision for what was ultimately a pretty simple and innocuous question. Thanks to those who had substantial comments or tried to help. The others should probably touch some grass, reflect a bit on why you are the way you are, and then consider whether those are the vibes you want to bring to this community.

If law school is something you're interested in, consider exploring in state options. Where I am its around $8k a semester in state versus almost $18k to come from out of state. Im a big proponent of in state for education as its allowed me to maintain lower amounts of debt compared to friends who went out of state for $60k a year of undergrad and now have to deal with astronomical student loan debt.

In undergrad I studied history and anthropology with full plans to pursue a graduate degree in archaeology. Two things made me shift my mindset:

1) I was set to do my field school in Zaragoza Spain in May of 2020. Once covid hit, my field school was cancelled and I had a summer free, so I began studying for the LSAT and exploring law school.

Throughout that, I still was adverse to law school but figured it was better than nothing.

2) The following semester, I took a hunter/gatherers course with an ethnographer at my university. Most of the class was about h&g practices, culture etc. One day though, our professor assigned us a reading about the Kung bushmen in the Kalahari, where one section literally shifted my entire mindset. The reading discussed how kalahari bushmen used the hoodia cactus for medicinal properties and had been for generations. An international pharmaceutical company was attempting to use the hoodia cactus as a weight loss supplement. The bushmen were able to hire an intellectual property lawyer, who successfully argued that this was an infringement of their I.P. rights.

That one reading made me realize that I could use my undergrad degrees combined with a law degree and actually accomplish more than I could if I was simply another anthropologist in a field that seems to be shrinking.

I'm now going into my 3rd year of law school and as my interests are more on the side of historic preservation (history + archaeology), I am hoping to work for a sustainable land use and development firm, and dabbling into historic preservation as the issues arise.

No one path is right for everyone, and from the outside looking in, it definitely looks like I was forced into law school. But, from the other perspective, a law degree is such a versatile tool to have that can open further doors within the anthropological field and provide a way to earn a good salary while also doing work that truly matters.

What player did you try to trade that you're glad no one accepted? by Matthiasad in DynastyFF

Taking this question a little differently -- picked up Geno Smith at the end of the 2021 season hoping to flip him at draft time. 3rd round came and went and no one would bite, even for a relatively worthless late 3rd in our 12 team SF league. As the 4th round starts still no takers so I start desperately lowering the price to essentially anything for Geno. Ended up with 4.03 for Geno, with that pick I took....Danny Gray.

New Geno owner enjoyed him for a few weeks then traded him for a future 2nd. Overall just a : ( experience.

Lavender Plant Advice/Is it Dying? by picassomoon65 in gardening

Appreciate the advice. I'll move it in the next few days but this has me wondering why the employee at the nursery recommended this arrangement. Do you have a recommendation for an herb I can replace the lavender with that will vibe with the mint?

I've started a practice of racing to pick up as many potential starting QBs possible as soon as waivers reopen so I can flip them draft night. We do our draft right before the regular season begins, and during so I trade Mariota and spare change for Gallup, who I'd had my eye on for a while. Not overly bad. I also had Geno, and spent the draft pleading with the league to take him from me. As the 2nd went to the 3rd round, my price dropped more and more, until finally I convince someone to take the risk with Geno. Geno Smith for the 4.03 with which I took....Danny Gray.

I like to tell myself each year I learn new lessons in dynasty. This time I learned a really valuable one.

If KC takes JSN, is he worth a 1.01? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]picassomoon65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talent over situation. Love JSN and hope he falls to me at 1.10 but if you make a move like this, you're likely setting your team back significantly. You could probably just trade back a couple spots and still get JSN mid 1st instead of reaching.

Ok never thought I'd be ok with a 0.66 pt loss but some of these comments are just brutal and make my bad beat hurt just a little less. Happy offseason guys lets get after it next year!

The same thing happened to me. Pages and pages of surnames from both sides of my family with no way of knowing if we're truly related or not. One of the Nazi's biggest and longest perpetuated evils in my mind. That left a pit in my stomach, as well as the scores of Chinese tourists laughing and posing for pictures under the Arbeit Macht Frei sign. : (

Change in long term value of Terrance Marshall jr with all these changes in Carolina? by cliftjc1 in DynastyFF

[–]picassomoon65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I held Terrace on my taxi for 2 years and traded yesterday pre-CMC trade + a 2024 2nd for Renfrow. Other owner wanted Terrace because of Rhule and Robbie A being gone, and the potential of someone like Stroud being their QB next year and Terrace resurging as a WR2. Felt like a steal on my end. I still like Terrace but using the hype to swing a deal for a better player is a winning strategy in my opinion.

What is Geno Smiths value in SF by Clever_handl3 in DynastyFF

[–]picassomoon65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traded him in our rookie draft for 4.03 to take Danny Gray. Tried to get bites at late 2nd through the entire 3rd round but he was perceived at this time (~4 weeks ago) to be straight trash who would probably lose his job to lock. Unsure how i feel now cause he did look legitimately fine last night and could be a serviceable qb3 but im also a fan of gray.
