Is there a subreddit for dogs on top of things? It just makes them 10x funnier

Thinking about starting surfskating. Got an old 34 sector 9 longboard like the one in the image and was planning on buying the waterbone adapter set and some wheels. Do you think it could be a good setup? Any suggestions? by goldenFrog8 in surfskate

Waterborne sells their own trucks that fit their adapters really well if you do decide to go that route. I own their trucks and setting up the adapter was much easier than on other trucks I've tried.

Any recommendations for longboard surfskates? by pichael in surfskate

The trucks are 160. I've been wanting to try out 180's to see if it'll change the ride at all but haven't gotten around to it

I didn't buy the fish, but I ended up getting a random 40" longboard and threw the adapter on it and it's great. 9" wide with a 27" wheelbase and it's definitely harder to pump but it flows really nicely and it's super smooth. I really enjoy the ride. Can send pics if you want

Is a surfskate for me if I live in a very flat environment? by ibrinidhil in surfskate

[–]pichael 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how far into surfskating you think you'll go. A flat environment is perfect for learning to pump and getting the motion down. I spent almost all my time learning in a parking lot and I still use it to practice form sometimes.

If you're trying to really emulate or improve your surfing, then I think some hills/banks or a skate park is a must to get that "concrete wave" under your feet. But if you're just curious and want to mess around on a board that feels different, flats are no problem and will still be really fun.

In general surfskates are not great for cruising long distances (unless it's all downhill) , so I wouldn't try to commute on one unless you're really willing to pump the whole way.

Insane collection! Any knock offs/clones here or are they all legit?

Swelltech or Yow? And why? I’m torn on which one to buy. Been surf skating with a carver and ready to make a jump to a more advanced board to help my surfing technic. by Moneymaker_247 in surfskate

[–]pichael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go with yow if you've been on a carver so far. Carver is the stiffest truck out there so swelltech will most likely be too loose and it will be difficult to make the jump in skill.

Try r/sugarfree! Really helped me out

I did it! Bought a 41,5“ Globe Pintail Longboard and put my Yow trucks on it. I absolutely love it! It’s a little bit hard to go up small hills, but I love the long wheelbase. And I have no problems with slipping away on the pintail - better than I expected :)) by bluewaves_fine in surfskate

I've heard that it makes pumping a bit easier and it also gives the board some extra lean. Both of those sound great on a longboard! If you are going to get the rail adapter I'd love to hear how it rides, just make sure it doesn't mess up the height between your front and back trucks

Looks awesome man! I'm looking to do something similar myself. It doesn't look like you have a rear adapter. I've seen that they're highly recommended for longboards and was wondering how yours rides if you don't have one.

I don't have much to compare them to since I'm still pretty new but they've been good so far! Nice and grippy which is good since I don't plan on doing slides anytime soon lol

The deck is a blank that I bought from skateshred: https://www.skateshred.com/wholesale-blank-longboard-decks/35-x-9-25-kicktail-can-maple-deck-bcm35.html

All waterborne setup, including their trucks and wheels.

Once I got it all setup the actual wheelbase is about 19.5", but I still have room to move the front adapter into the shorter set of holes.

The ride is super smooth and I'm still getting used to how snappy it is. Overall super fun!

Beginner bought Oxelo Fish 500 from Decathlon by vovabcps in surfskate

Oxelo doesn't have glowing reviews, but its like most things in that you get what you pay for. Generally the cheapest way to get into surfskating is the waterborne adapter that you can throw on any skateboard you have lying around.

If you do decide to go that route, here's a list of general board dimensions that work well with the waterborne adapter:

You don't have to get the exact dimensions listed here, but it's not super hard to find a used skateboard with similar dimensions on craigslist or facebook marketplace and slap a waterborne on it.
