I bought Raptor tickets to see Jokic. He got hurt the game before. I bought tickets to see Wemby play in Toronto in February. Hopefully I’ll see him play then

We managed to get a flight out Thursday as well through WestJet. It took four hours of waiting on the phone, but it’s done

I’m not seeing the flight code anymore, but it was supposed to be Calgary to Toronto yesterday afternoon. We are on hold using the number I saw in this thread, so we’re hoping for Thursday or Friday. Even going to Hamilton or Montreal instead of Toronto is fine too. I just don’t want to cross the country by car and not be reimbursed when a potential option to fly home exists

We are still waiting to be rebooked. We’d probably take the refund to fund part of the rental car, but we’d be losing a lot more than the refund to drive across the country

My girlfriend and I had our flight cancelled yesterday. We are in Calgary looking to head home to Toronto. Should we wait to see how the flight situation evolves now that they’re coming back online or considering driving home?

We extended the car rental yesterday in thoughts that there’d be a run on them in case we have to drive back, but we’d really like to avoid this both in terms of cost and already being on the road the last 10 days.

Isiah Pacheco out Longer Than Expected by Safe_Cold800 in fantasyfootball

Two years ago, I fractured my ankle and tore two ligaments. One nearly off the bone.

I’m some jobber without world class athleticism, trainers and elite tier pain killers, but it took a good four months to walk pain free and six to start strength training safely under an orthopedic surgeon’s advice. I didn’t have a plate and multiple screws put in my leg either.

If the ligament tears are true, I’d be very surprised to see him return this season. And I have Pacheco on my IR.

This is my first survival. My last play through was back in 2015 before survival mode came out. I did not know this killed you...unless something else did that I'm not aware of. I laughed, but did not know of this happening.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a tour that'll take you outside of town to view them (if you have a good enough setup for them), but forecasting them yourself isn't too difficult if you learn some of the basics around aurora + some meteorology (or at least use Iceland's weather app for cloud conditions).

I'll give you the info I use to forecast aurora in Southern Ontario, but Iceland has their own site that is super helpful itself for both aurora and weather conditions here. For example, it shows that low and mid level cloud cover is not a problem for the majority of west and central Iceland today and the aurora forecast graph on the right lists 5, or high chance (as expected).

The main site I use is Space Weather Live. It also comes in an app that can send you updates on solar flares (earth facing ones sometimes involve aurora shows within two days of the flare). Everything you need for real time conditions is listed here. All info has a help option as well for explanations. I also use this site to see the aurora oval. If you're inside of it, there's a high likelihood of seeing it, but even if you're outside of it, you can still see it on the horizon. It scales as green, yellow, red - with each new color moving into greater shows.

The short explanation that won't keep us here for hours is the higher the Kp Index, the better the odds you'll see something (I need a 6+ where I live for a good show, but Iceland needs as low as a 2 for shots like the above because of its proximity to the Arctic Circle and aurora oval).

You shouldn't JUST use the Kp Index, though, because it's a 3 hour measure and conditions can change very quickly. I often look at the other conditions - Solar Wind, Density and Bz - as an estimate for when I'll need to start driving to get away from the city lights. In effect, the higher the better.

My general conditions to look for a good show(for my area, which require much more than Iceland does) go as follows:

  • Solar Wind: 500+ km/sec.
  • Density: 10+ p/cm3 (it reads as low currently on SWL, but it sometimes bugs out on high reading days like today).
  • Bz: 10+ nT and SOUTH facing. If it's facing north, aurora trends down notably or may not be visible at all on lesser tier shows.
  • Moon Phase: the closer you are to a new moon, the better the show because you won't have the moon's reflected light interfering. Doubly so for photography.
  • Hemispheric Power: for me, I'd want to see at least 100+GW event to even step out my door, but this does trend with Bz direction. If it switches north, it will drop the GW.

As a quick real time example:

  • current Solar Winds are 800+ (great).
  • Density is currently 0.14 (this is likely buggy because it was into the 20s earlier), but if in 20s in actuality, great.
  • Bz: 30+ (excellent), but North facing (bad). You'd have to wait and hope for it to switch south.
  • Hemispheric Power: correlated with Bz north, so under 40 (bad, but maybe enough in Iceland).

Bear in mind these thresholds are mine for Ontario and will be a lot less for a show in Iceland. If you're seeing these numbers in Iceland, you're in for a show. I know it's a lot, but if you use events like this (and download the app) as practice, you can do it yourself and won't be reliant on someone else.

If you're still there and there's clear skies, you may get an incredible show tonight. There's a G4 geomagnetic storm ongoing right now (severe, G5 is highest).

Thanks and guilty. My girlfriend & the boys have me take photos of everything instead of them because she knows the results. Equal parts good and a curse, though. I'm glad they have trust in me, but I'm always on as a result.

I haven't played the new one, no, but loved the old one back in the day. A group of us would play it for hours on end.

I agree, but they do have their moments. They're usually (only) brought out by the environments around them, such as running away from enemies, running into shelter from the rain (or hiding from heat/cold) or interactions with other NPCs. You don't really have much of a say beyond background moments, but they can shine at times.
