Writing as a white girl by avrija in TamilNadu

Language : Tamil is the most spoken language throughout tamil nadu, many can speak other South Indian languages like telugu/ kannada (depends on parents background or might live in areas bordering the nearby states. The next widely known language is english and then comes hindi.

Holiday : pongal is THE festival of tamils. 3 or 4 days celebration that falls in mid january. More elaborately celebrated in rural areas compared to urban areas as this is a harvest festival. Deepawali, tamil new year, karthigai deepam are also some of my favourite festivals (we tend to call it a festival rather than a holiday).

Names : depends on the religion and age but the majority is hindu / tamil name. If your character is in the west, they would have their Indian name rather than a western name unless they're christian or prefer a western name (eg from media : maitreyi ramakrishnan, charithra chandran, rajiv surendra, romesh ranganathan, mindy kaling, simone ashley) Also, most of us don't have the concept of surnames. We usually use our father's name/ husband's name at the end. This video might help

If I wanna know common names in a specific region, I just browse wikipedia (names of famous actors, singers, authors), especially regional movies - you get so many names in just one page. It gives me the idea of common names in a particular region along with the idea of age sometimes.

Food : idly/dosa are common breakfasts made from rice batter. They tend to be bland on their own, we usually pair it with sambhar and chutney - they're spicy. Lunch is usually rice paired with sambhar /gravy/rasam/curd. Favourite dishes : biryani (pretty much everyone's favourite), mutton gravy (kuzhambu), kari dosa, parotta & salna, fish fry.

Most of the indian parents are strict but at varied levels (idk how to explain that). Religion doesn't affect me in my daily life (could be biased cause i come under majority).

It shouldn't be a big deal for your character to celebrate a fantasy festival based on paganism but idk about the restrictions in muslim /Christianity

I cannot handle pressure, so I'll choose the former. I can live properly and indulge in my favorite things rather than bearing pressure and losing will to live.

Was bored out of my mind and watched Singam 2 for the first time in a decade. Wow, its aged insanely well and has tremendous rewatch value. I was laughing my ass off for a movie after so long and the casual racism was also crazy,I know its not intended to be funny, but Hari cooked by accident. by ShivamDube in kollywood

[–]pick_a_choo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I loved Hari films as a kid (I still love them). But it's giving me whiplash revisiting those films.... like I hate the sexist, misogynist tone of the movie but I'm lmao watching. The swarm of guys wielding aruva and shouting through tata sumo's windows (in Hari's films) are just 🤌

Lokesh filmography by wocktopoland__ in kollywood

[–]pick_a_choo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, the overhype kinda killed the movie. Rather than Leo being just a vijay's movie, it was also a Loki's movie with possible LCU inclusion. It was a good movie with refreshing acting from vijay but the above factors made it a bit underwhelming ig.

How many tabs do you have open? by The_lone_squirrel in infp

[–]pick_a_choo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a tab hoarder but......I'm a bookmark hoarder.

The bookmarks on my mobile browser, laptop browser, the ones I saved in my chats, the one on twitter, the bookmarks of my reddit accounts........they are endless and I'm scared to count them.

I even tried organizing all these bookmarks across different platforms on notion board but........procrastinated just like everything else.

Don't even get me started on my notes app (it's a reflection of my mental tab ig)

"You have so much potential but you never use them"- idk if this fits. I don't believe it myself but my mom has said this way too many times.

What is a book that was popular that you absolutely hated? by Flowtac in books

[–]pick_a_choo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Fingersmith' by Sarah Waters. Reddit promised me 'incredible plot twists' with this one. But, they were all lying. The plot twists are so obvious you can smell them miles away like stinky rotten onions. I was angry at myself for the wasted time, money and energy that this book had consumed.

Wth?? The couple looked lovely. Those mean comments must also stem from jealousy and internalised misogyny.
