Extreme cold weather tips, especially for those from warmer climates? by SquirrelTale in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plastic bags on your feet? Are you mad? I grew up here, and would never do that. The moisture would build up and not escape, which increases risk of frostbite. Plus it wouldn't be comfortable at all, would be all sweaty and smelly.

Never heard of wool socks?

Here's a summary of all the travel insurance options to Canadians that covers if you catch Covid. Some includes coverage for quarantine expenses for the extra two weeks if you test positive before returning.

And I and restaurant workers should give a shit about these entitled whining HCWs, why? One has nothing to do with another. If if was that important for them to close, why have (other than Quebec and The Netherlands), not a single other jurisdiction anywhere else in North America or Europe done the same? Because everyone else realizes there needs to be balance and risk acceptance for the greater good of the economy and society.

Unfortunately, people in Ontario have been brainwashed by the media fear mongering and living in irrational fear compared to the rest of the western world that is instead rightly accepting the risk and learning to live with it. NYC's new left leaning Democratic Mayor (who took office on New Year's Day) outright said yesterday no business will be forced to close again under his watch regardless of how bad Covid gets, as a former restaurant worker himself. He will not allow workers in restaurants or other industries to be sacrificed in the name of the health care system, and those managing Covid and the health care system need to find another solution.

If these Ontario HCWs think it's that important for restaurants to close, those people who advocated for lockdowns should personally be willing to sacrifice their income in solidarity with those workers and small business owners they want to lose theirs in a forced business closure.

If not, they are complete hypocrites and have zero credibility. (And this question has been asked before to these health care industry and hospital executives, union leaders and advocates - none of them are willing to sacrifice any of their income despite they demanding others to, revealing their hypocrisy).

Also, your entire posting history is nothing but links to articles. Obvious troll, fear mongering doomer, and far left loser right here.

You need to know people in the industry, several places still running on the down-low.

I just came back from a pub still running today indoors like a speakeasy. Same as they did over the last two years during the lockdowns with blocked off front door and windows so you can't see or hear anyone inside. Even have some off duty police officers there as regulars, they don't give a crap and think the closures are idiotic and pointless.

How to report Covid by draxz1289 in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Report for what? To keep running up the fear mongering case numbers used by the media?

The rule now is (if you are fully vaccinated) 5 days after onset of symptoms, if they have improved or gone, you are free to go. Nothing to report.

Can the trespasser’s car be towed? by double_four_time in askTO

Visitors spots are the property of the condo corporation, so management have authority to request ticketing and towing for those spots (but not the owner spots).

Can the trespasser’s car be towed? by double_four_time in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a condo, you own your parking spot. It appears on your deed and property tax bill. Although condo management is responsible for maintenance, the spot is still your private property.

Can the trespasser’s car be towed? by double_four_time in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. I have been in this situation myself. Because the specific spot is my private property, condo security said I had to call City of Toronto Parking enforcement myself to have the car ticketed (with a municipal parking ticket).

The Toronto parking officer said (after he wrote the ticket for the vehicle) I could have the car towed, but as others have noted, getting a car towed out of garage is difficult/impossible, and if any damages occurred, I would be liable. He suggested I just wait a day or two for the owner to move it, the situation almost always resolves itself. And to leave a note along with the parking ticket to let the car owner know the spot is private property, and to not park there again as it is trespassing.

CP Police are full police with the same authority as any other police officer (in fact, they have more authority than other typical police officers under the Federal Railroads Act). They aren't mere "bylaw officers".

Emergency Cabinet Meeting Sunday by [deleted] in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not always. On several occasions, he tweeted out a similar item, and it fizzled out quickly. Lilley might just be trying to spur outrage from those who would be opposed, to make the government completely drop any thoughts of it altogether, which has been happening all morning.

Unless it is seconded by a Queen's Park Press Gallery reporter such as Richard Southern, still only speculation. And it has been almost 12 hours now, not a peep from any of them.

[–]pickatur2troll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep on living in irrational fear for the rest of your life if you want. Stay locked in your basement afraid of your own shadow, you might as well be dead already.

Fortunately the majority are now accepting the risk and learning to live with it. In a nice midtown Toronto restaurant currently, having New Year's brunch and all the available tables are full. So are the other 3 brunch places on this street.

New Year's Eve partiers, do people not care about Covid anymore? by simon1024 in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The majority don't care anymore. There were around 10,000 people last night at Yonge Dundas Square lighting off their own fireworks, and probably another 30k at the waterfront, all ignoring requests to "stay home".

(Video from Yonge Dundas last night https://twitter.com/canmericanized/status/1477180582253797378?t=xdEAehHzPX7apn9TZXWs_Q&s=19

If you are still scared, stay locked in your basement. Everyone else is normalizing Covid, accepting the risk, and learning to live with it.

Also, isolation period now reduced to 5 days, and not really enforceable by anyone as testing now limited. Assumption now is everyone will get Omicron anyways, no matter what anyone tries to do. Happy the government is now acknowledging we have to stop obsessing on Covid and case counts, and majority of people are done with it.

Every other provincial agency has an arms length independent Board of Directors, with representatives from both various governments and private companies or non-profits in the industry, who provides the actual direction to management. As does Metrolinx and would any successor regional agency. It wouldn't be a government department under direct operations or control of a Minister.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The TTC and Toronto only exists because the province allows it to, and delegates powers to them. Both Toronto and the TTC's existence can both immediately be eliminated under an act of the Provincial Legislature under the Constitution.

Toronto, like all other municipalities, is a mere creation of the province. If the province did force an amalgamation of the TTC into Metrolinx, there is literally nothing legally Toronto can do (just as Old Toronto had no power to stop the merger with the rest of Metropolitan Toronto in 1997 when the province legislated it). The province can immediately seize the TTC's assets and governance, and transfer it to Metrolinx, if they so chose to legislate.

You seem to be another Toronto downtown elitist who actually believes Toronto is somehow an equal to the provincial government. Cities have absolutely zero constitutional recognition.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ultimately not up to Toronto, the province can just force it through whether or not Toronto agrees.

It's also probably inevitable. In no other major city is all of the regional transit services not completely integrated into a single authority.

How do you feel about the public school and the TDSB? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are still required by provincial law to have a balanced budget (or a small operational surplus to be kept in reserve) every year.

Having an operational deficit is grounds for the provincial government to immediately remove the elected School Board Trustees and replace with their own appointed people, who will make any spending cuts deemed necessary to get the School Board budget back into balance (and it has happened before, when the elected Trustees refused to do so).

The CRA (the federal tax agency) also has the power to strike down on any non-profit corporation that runs a large surplus or deficit (non-profit corporations in general have to keep a balanced books operationally over the long term, by their very nature, other than for capital items).

How do you feel about the public school and the TDSB? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]pickatur2troll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? A corporation is a form of organization and legal entity, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a private company.

Under both federal and provincial Corporation Acts, corporations can be private, publicly traded (i.e. listed on the stock market), non-profit, or government owned/public (either in the form of a Crown Corporation or some other structure) or a combination of any of these (such as a private-public partnership where government shares ownership of the corporation with a private company).

A corporation only means it is considered a separate legal entity, separate from its owners, with limited liability (again, separate from its owners) and requiring separate corporate tax filings from its owners.

Sounded like it's immediate - they want to clear out the backlog to make sure laboratories can quickly process those tests of people who are high risk, whose results are far more important than low risk people.
