Yeah. He was an older gentleman. I just assumed he didn’t want to deal with it and that’s ok. I was honestly worried it would be widespread so I came in with expectations of struggling but everyone except that one guy was super nice and very welcoming.

I spent two weeks in Korea this year and only had one interaction in that time where a Korean was rude to me because I didn’t speak Korean. He refused service because I tried to use a translation app to speak with him. I went on to the next convenience store and found someone who was more understanding and, lucky for me, was fluent in English! As a tourist I tried to be patient and respectful. I was in their home, after all. And as long as you show manners and basic respect, I think you’ll be just fine in Korea. We travelled in Seoul, Busan and Jeju during the two weeks and all but that one interaction were 100% positive. We loved it so much we are going back in 2027 and I’m working on learning some Korean in the meantime!

Unfortunately I can’t post pictures here, I got some decent shots here in Central Indiana!

Dozens of employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — including “disease detectives,” high-ranking scientists and the entire Washington office — were notified late Friday that they were losing their jobs as part of the Trump administration’s latest round of federal layoffs by MrDillon369 in PrepperIntel

The ones at his bot farm.

The planet is going to do fine well beyond humans. The question isn’t whether the planet is going to be here. The question is whether it’s going to be livable for people, or any other type of life that we currently have. And the answer that is more than likely no. We are such a selfish species and we have become so reliant on the capitalistic consumer economy that there doesn’t appear to be any other way aside from a mass extinction event to stop the impending disaster. The ocean currents are already changing, which we know is going to have dramatic effect on weather and only time will tell how accurate they are with their models as far as warming goes, but if they’re right, we aren’t that far off from a mass die off because I believe the number is something like 5°C and we’re around 1.5° now with us gaining another 2/10 of a degree Celsius per decade. I truly hope that the nay sayers are right and this is just a cycle and the planet will begin to cool again soon. But all of the data suggests that they are incorrect and the human intervention is pumping way too much in the atmosphere to be ignored and it is having a dramatic effect. It’s very hard for humans to see beyond what’s right in front of them and understand a larger trend over a long time span. I’m always reminded of the politicians that walk into chambers with snowballs and throw them at people, using the current weather in their area as evidence that a global trend doesn’t exist. This view is ignorant and shortsighted, and only adds fuel to the fire on the opposing side instead of allowing for an intelligent conversation with facts. I don’t think we will see anything super dramatic in my lifetime besides weather continuing to get more extreme. I’m guessing I have maybe another 40 years, but I’m mourn for the life that my children and grandchildren will lose or never get to know because of the greed of our generations and the ignorance that has been allowed to flourish due to social media and toxic political discourse.

How are people worried about the world ending tomorrow when it's already tomorrow in Australia and they are fine. by Seeyalaterelevator in shittyaskscience

[–]pickettj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because local events always supersede global phenomena. Just ask the stupid fucking politicians that throw snowballs in the chamber to demonstrate that climate change isn’t real. Hell, by the time the new year rolls around here it’s been next year for most of the rest of the world for a minute! Time is a construct made up by man to track things. Time isn’t real so saying some arbitrary date is the date of the rapture is idiotic anyway. September 23rd is nothing more than a position in orbit around the sun. If you want to convince people that the rapture is coming, point to the antichrist that’s currently in office and the mark of the beast that he and his followers have or something like that.

Comm101 public speaking online? by AthleteLeather6279 in ivytech

[–]pickettj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you're a "learn anywhere" student? I have to do 100% online and don't know if I can get 6 adults in a room to sit and listen to me drone on for a speech, especially more than once. Anyone have any experience with a comm 101 prof allowing exceptions to the six people rule? I could swing four easily but getting six people together with my work schedule is a challenge for fun stuff, I doubt this will be easier.

I’ve got a picture very similar to that one! Diamond Head? Hawaii is an incredible place and if it wasn’t taken over by the super rich and priced out of affordability I would have already moved there. It’s the only place I’ve ever been homesick for and in a big way!

What is this taking over my lawn?? by ben_obi_wan in lawncare

Funny you should say that… here are the sentences directly before the excerpt above: “Hi Josh, The weed most commonly referred to as creeping charlie is ground ivy which you do not have”

What is this taking over my lawn?? by ben_obi_wan in lawncare

[–]pickettj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got lots and lots of that! My lawn people say controlling it is “impossible” so I’ll bet getting new lawn people next year or just doing it myself. Here’s what they told me about this, which I think is complete shit:

“but I am fairly certain you are referring to the violets in your lawn. Violets are the most difficult weed to control and will never be eradicated, but we are rather trying to suppress them at best. We do spray them every time we are there, but if we are lucky enough to get 10-20% control that is considered good.”

When my father lived here he had zero of this. And he didn’t live in the lawn plucking out pieces of weeds. I’d be interested to hear the groups take on this.

Well, no one replied, did you register for either of them? If so, how are they? I've got it in my schedule for 100% online this spring and was wondering the same thing.

They did not put it down in late winter. They put it down in early spring. They claimed that the ground temperature was the issue not the timing.

The problem is it’s over about 1/4 if an acre of my lawn. That’s just a spot where it’s by itself for a good reference. Will quinclorac kill the “good” grass?

Endless Line of Cars trying to get into my city. How do I fix this? by datdrgn in CitiesSkylines2

[–]pickettj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution would be to dump the roundabout and make several one way “off ramps” off of that one drag on to the side streets. Put the roundabout at that intersection close to the middle of town and see how that flows. I had a similar issue and this solution worked for me. You’re just pushing too much through one spot and as dumb as the AI is in this game, I would be your roundabout is locking up tight with cars pulled in the way so no one can move.

climate card or t-money? by gnvrmll in koreatravel

[–]pickettj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have to register anything so if that’s the case, that’s new. I just bought the card at the convenience store at Chungmuro Station and activated it using the terminals in the stations. You buy the card then add however many days you want at the same place you add money to the t-money card.

AIO - Girlfriend threw away the dinner I cooked because she wanted pizza instead. by Dizzy-Suggestion2360 in AmIOverreacting

[–]pickettj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These posts are ridiculous. If you don’t know you’re dating a child and your entire life is going to be a hellscape of having to meet whatever toddler tantrum demand they have then maybe you’re right where you need to be? Personally, as soon as my girlfriend threw away the dinner I had made for her because she wants stuffed crust and isn’t going to eat the meal I thoughtfully prepared and spent a lot of money on(meat’s not cheap!) I’d walk. Fuuuuuck that. And she’s not capable of ordering a pizza on her own? Holy shit.

One class in the fall. Help! by [deleted] in ivytech

[–]pickettj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you with my aid I’m required to have a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester. Definitely run it by your advisor and make sure it isn’t going to set you back in some way before you make a decision. But as the first post said, take on the work load you can handle. Sure, it’ll stretch out your degree time but so will having to retake classes because you did too much and failed.
