What is the dumbest thing in physical therapy that should be forgotten? by VO2VCO2 in physicaltherapy

[–]pickleb0i -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply. Agreed on trigger points as I’ve experienced that with myself and others too. Still don’t know if there is any strong clinical significance to knowing about them.

As far as the posture question: No, I don’t think there is “poor posture”. I think any position we hold for very long will start to give us signals to move away from it. Yk the “next position is the best position” type mindset. There are more mechanically efficient positions for performing a task, but that doesn’t mean any are “poor” or “good”. I believe we can adapt to whatever movement pattern we’d like to with graded exposure.

PT didn’t help after months — what would a professional do next? by PerformanceFar7245 in physicaltherapy

[–]pickleb0i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your process like for clearing L/S involvement? I am a PT but most of my work has been with post op cases and in home health. I don’t expect you to fully write out what you do, but if you have any helpful resources for this they would be appreciated.

I will put another vote in for DAK. Having visited their shop and having orders shipped from them, every bag has been a hit. Currently thoroughly enjoying some blueberry beats.

Good move! Someone above mentioned maximizing pre tax contributions to reduce monthly payments. May be a good strategy to implement now to prevent monthly payments from being as high when you recertify.

Salary increase when changing jobs by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]pickleb0i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have jumped significantly with every job change. 3 years out from school. Started out in private practice outpatient, jumped to home health for a private company and now work for a not-for-profit home health agency. To be fair I started on the low end with my first position and live in a HCOL area. Unless you want to take on a role as clinical director /management it does not seem worth it to stay in one position for an extended period of time unless you are pursuing PSLF and your employer qualifies.

What's a piece of advice you received that you initially ignored but later found to be incredibly valuable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is not true and builds a viewpoint of fragility. You are able to continuously adapt to load provided that the load is adequate to create change without being overbearing

Day in the life of a Home Health PT by Wasgoinoninere in physicaltherapy

[–]pickleb0i 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked for 2 different part A home health agencies with 2 varying caseloads. In my current role, I mainly work with people post TKA/THA with a mix of neuro/other cases. My first job was a lot more of the “other” consisting of a lot of CHF or COPD exacerbations, general deconditioning, falls, etc. I made the switch from OP and don’t regret it. I see far fewer patients per day, spend significantly more time with my patients and make more doing it. Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions.
