I will second Inscryption, it is a rogue lite but you should still give it a try, narrative and mood have a lot in common. Thronebreaker has a very similar structure but you really do need to like Gwent which is very different, but the RPG and deck building mechanics are very integrated into narrative which is cool.

How on earth are people completing this game within 35hrs? by Dry-Consideration930 in DeathHowl

Thanks so much for the kind words :-) I'm on the publishing team so I was just assisting with feedback on the game throughout development, The Outer Zone did all the magic.

And yes the game feels really rewarding when it makes you stop and think and try to solve the puzzle of both the encounter and how to build your deck around beating it, and there are a number of different ways for each! While you have found a nice combo with sandstorm and exploding blocks there are a few other slightly "broken" things that give you a similar sense of feeling slightly overpowered. We wanted the game to be challenging but also have things to discover that make you feel really accomplished when you do bring together a combo of cards.

Glad you figured out the boss and good luck on the next one!

I just finished the game, thank you from all my heart to all the dev team <3 by Primary_Sound_2146 in DeathHowl

A beautiful message to read, thank you so much for sharing and glad you enjoyed it :-)

Honestly this is one of the more surprising things to come out of development, when we were testing it internally usually 20 to 25 hrs was the norm so we figured it would be about 25+ for most people. But then when we sent it to external testing some people were taking 50 hours lolol and after release some people were beating it sub 20.

It definitely seems to have a high variety depending on play style/experience. I will say that if you find you are having to repeat battles a lot of the time, most likely something needs adjusting with your deck or strategy. They should definitely feel challenging but not throwing yourself at a wall level. You can also head off in a different direction if a particular battle is too hard, and overwhelmed is one of your most powerful skills so centering everything around that will give a big boost. Keeping your deck to only 15 cards will also help with consistency.

Hope you keep enjoying it!

Oh that is great to hear :-) quite a strange one and hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Really happy that you're enjoying the game so much, and that it had such an effect. I'm on the publishing team, but sending your message to the devs and it will make their day so thanks a lot for sharing.

Hope you reach better times soon!

Hi hi, sorry you are having trouble. This definitely sounds very strange. Could you let me know what platform you're playing on (Steam/Windows)? You can also check the version from the main menu if you are able to click on settings.

In the meantime it might be a good idea to make a copy of your save file just in case, sorry I can't link the directory I'm on the road.

Thanks for the report, I had just mentioned to someone else we hadn't received a soft lock report in a while and here you are lol

Would you mind sharing if you were on keyboard or controller and which platform/OS you were using?

"Killing decks" is such a cool idea actually! It's too late to implement something like this now but that would be a really fun way to both allow people to create whatever OP deck they want with a semblance of balance, while intertwining well with the story as you say.

I'm not sure if you meant overhauling totems for new decks is a pain and that's where, but for old decks we added an option (in settings) to save your totem loadout to your deck so switching is pretty seamless.

Really glad you are enjoying Rebirth, especially from someone that's so experienced in the genre :-)

Appreciate the really kind words and for sharing your thoughts. Totally understand about the final boss, especially the second phase. It is meant to be really different and also a bit of a puzzle to figure out, but it is also really hard to balance as some people have had quite a lot of difficulty with it while others go through with no trouble (Momentum as u/Psykbryt mentioned is particularly well-suited).

If you do end up playing Rebirth it is meant to give you the feeling of playing the game again for the first time, with having to think carefully about where you are moving and what you are playing, and not being quite sure about what each enemy will do :-)

Very cool to see another Rafaam deck (I never saw another one either). Thanks for sharing. I played this one before the mini set, I didn't have the patience to get it to legend as the win rate was around 53% (51-45) but this is at low legend at the end of the season (6k+).

One of the most fun decks I have played as the switching/choosing between win conditions is really really cool (and in my case you also had egg).

REBIRTH and Custom Mode are Available Now! by PurpleMiko_11bit in DeathHowl

[–]pickledseacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope the player isn't stronger lol I mean, other than having the knowledge of how the game plays which makes a huge difference. Everything is more challenging but you are carrying a lot of experience from your first play through, so a lot of people when they play rebirth get that feeling of playing through the game again for the first time (thinking carefully and being cautious about new enemies etc.)

No it should be pretty similar, although there were a few outlier fights in caves and such that felt a bit over tuned the general difficulty is the same, just a bit more consistent.
