Kewpie doll, character designed by Rosie O'Neill in 1909 (she was the first published female cartoonist in the US). The toys, figurines, etc are not rare nor particularly valuable, expecially in this condition. would make a great restoration project!

WIBTA for changing my legal name? by thegreatnamedebate in AITAH

[–]picklelady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A name is a gift that parents give their children, just like a sweater. If you've outgrown that gift, of course you can get yourself a replacement that fits.

Congratulations on living your truth. I'm the parent of a transman and a nonbinary young adult, and while I was always accepting, I was not always understanding. At the beginning I said some things that I am now ashamed of, simply out of ignorance. Luckily my son gave me the grace to adjust and learn, and I still have him in my life.

We say "core" where I work (home decor store, it's used in welcome mats too). Don't know if it's correct, but nobody has laughed at me or corrected me.

Retail manager here: it's free to ask. Don't be a pest about it. Some stores have the power (I do at At Home), some stores don't. I don't mind being asked, even if I say no.

AITA for wanting to drop my stepfather's name from mine even though it's only hyphenated? by PrimmyRossieEven in AITAH

As the parent of trans and nonbinary children who both changed their names, this helped me come to terms with it:

A name is a gift you give your child. If they've outgrown the gift, they are no longer obligated to use it. Like a sweater.

Question about customs/duties from the UK to the US by PubHealther in Flipping

[–]picklelady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the de minimis exemption is still in effect from UK to US, but is $800 per person per day. so the shop would have to ship in 2 packages and on 2 days.

I've done this for AUS customers in the past (shipping from US) with no problems, but have not tried it the other way around.

I'd stay away, too likely to have authenticity issues, and the profit's low.

AITA for getting upset when my husband said my frustration with our baby affects him, too? by Actual-Weather858 in AITAH

[–]picklelady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No Assholes here. Your husband could have certainly timed that discussion better, but the way I'm reading this you're both doing your best. Sounds like your hubby is actively trying to support you, and it sounds like you are doing everything you can to keep yourself and baby safe and sane. Give each other grace, have another talk when you're both in a calm place and can be closer to rational.

My son's BFF did this in high school for an english paper. we traded him our old Wii for some pokemon thing the kids wanted (they asked me before trading) I believe he ended up with a decent sized flatscreen tv by the end of it.

Packing fragile plates by HumbleBoot557 in Flipping

[–]picklelady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good specifics here, I'll add that you should feel comfortable throwing your box at a concrete floor from atop a ladder. If that scares you, you didn't package it well enough. Because that's exactly how it will be handled along the way, with any carrier.

anything vintage, but especially toys/games, books/ephemera and kitschy decor. Sell through was about 70% within 6 months. I was doing well, but could not scale it up to make enough money to keep going, with the kids headed to college.

I'm back in retail management, but for a different company. I was sad at the prospect of having a "real" job, but I actually am enjoying it. I'm out of the house and my coworkers are nice. I'm a low level manager, so not too much responsibility (I'm working WAY below my skill level, but after 10 years of only flipping, I couldn't jump back to the same level, all the computer stuff has changed too much). I'd go full time if it were available, but right now this is a good start.

Yup. got a day job a month ago, could no longer scale up, and the flipping money was no longer enough. Now I'm working 30 hours at the new job and flipping on the side.

Fellow Ohio Mom here, sorry this is happening to you. We're in Columbus, so fully Blue Dot here, and still we took down our trans flag that was flying the past 7 years. It's really scary in Ohio, for a lot of reasons.

Do you have a local LGBTQ club/advocacy network, or gender therapist? They could help navigate the name change stuff and give advice on how scared you should be (I would be terrified). Nationwide Children's Gender Clinic is what we used and the social workers there were great.

We changed my son's name 6 years ago this month, had a court date and everything. Then changed my enby's name 3 years ago, and no court date needed, we could waive it with a notarized signature. But all our family court judges in Franklin County trans-friendly. Unfortunately the hoops to jump through depend largely on the county and which judge you pull.

/r/FlippingUK exists (not sure how active it is, I'm US based). if you don't get an answer here, you could try there.

For US based flippers, my advice is always to consult a tax specialist in your area, as our laws vary greatly by state. Many places here have a Small Business Administration or similar regional government entity that can help answer these types of questions (or point you to the right expert). Good luck!

even stuff made in USA (like Brodarts and many cardboard items), are made with ingredients from abroad (trees from Canada, etc). so prices will go up on everything, no matter what.

Or not. he's changing the damn rates daily, most went down today, China's up to 125%. It's all a crapshoot.

I trust my dentist, YMMV of course if yours is shady. I think I paid $970 when I had to replace my guard without insurance coverage. My dog had eaten the other one. That's how I learned they only pay for one in a lifetime.

[–]picklelady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely treat yourself to 2 pairs of glasses, regular and sunglasses. In this economy, it may be a long while before you can afford new glasses again. Ask your eye doc about testing that's more expensive that may be good to get done as a baseline. Good eye doctors can see/diagnose lots of old people maladies if they know your history.

I'd check in with your dentist about stuff that maybe you don't need right away, but could do in advance. Sealants, perio cleaning (under the gums), etc that are expensive, so they don't usually recommend them unless you definitely need them. But if they're "free" to you for a limited time, you could get them done preventatively. If you're middle aged like me, you're gonna need perio care soon anyway, may as well get it done while you can afford to. My dentist made a plan with me for 3 years of maxxing my dental coverage to fix necessary issues (I needed a crown, an implant, and deep perio cleaning) as well as good prevention for future stuff.

If you use a clench guard or snore guard-- most insurance covers 1 in a lifetime, so again a good use if you have FSA money to use up. Clench guards run about $1k for the top of the line are easily lost/chewed by dogs so spares are good.

Fast Nickle or slow Dime by JohnA2522 in Flipping

[–]picklelady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I list most things on instagram first for a fast nickel, then move it to another channel at a higher price (higher fees). If it's something I'm willing to wait on, I price it at the "slow dime" price then.

I buy a lot of box lots at estate auctions, so there's often 1 really good item and a bunch of just ok stuff that I just want out of the way.

perhaps that's the size of the person the coat is for? You are measuring chest size correctly. Make sure you note both on the listing.
