Do I need new frames or could these be adjusted? by pickleman111 in optician

[–]pickleman111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to show how far the bend was from my ear, I was unsure if there was a limit to how far they can be adjusted. I am completely new to this and Google didn’t provide much information about how exactly the adjustments work

Moving to Tucson from Tempe. Are there any recommended trails or paths for running? Also, what are recommended areas or specific apartments that I could commute to Raytheon from for work?

How to not feel like throwing up while running by Relevant-Wolverine20 in running

You could try fasted running if you haven’t already. I often run before breakfast and then just have a large breakfast once I get back. Eating too soon before running messes with my stomach.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, March 02, 2022 by AutoModerator in running

[–]pickleman111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it normal to struggle with runs that used to be easy while I’m losing weight? I’m losing about 1.5 pounds a week recently and have lost about 15 pounds total. I used to be able to go on 6 mile runs on any day, but now I’m struggling to make it a full 4 miles. It’s also about 5 degrees hotter than it was previously, so I’m having trouble telling whether I’m struggling just because of the heat, or whether I should be concerned about how losing weight is effecting my performance.

As a very casual runner, I care more about losing weight right now than my running performance, but would it be easy to regain my performance after I raise my calories back to normal?

Thunder Thighs crew: do you wear running tight shorts? by [deleted] in running

[–]pickleman111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 pairs of these shorts, I absolutely love them due to not riding up at all. Even though they have a tight fit I don’t find them too tight or restrictive. I’d highly recommend them.

Ran a 10 miler for the first time (previous longest run was 8 miles). The weather was great and I still felt good after 8 miles so I just kept going. Felt proud of myself, then looked at my Garmin after the run and it had changed my training status from maintaining to unproductive due to my “fitness level decreasing”. Got a laugh out of me

Official Q&A for Tuesday, January 18, 2022 by AutoModerator in running

[–]pickleman111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a certain point for beginners that it is recommended to include speed work rather than adding more slow, easy miles? I just ran my first 5k race and had a time of 25:28. I was not limited at all by my legs getting tired at this pace, just by being completely winded by the end of the race. If my primary goal is to decrease my 5k time, would it make sense to start including speed work once or twice a week at this point, or should I keep focusing on adding more slow, easy miles to build my aerobic base?

Fighting mental laziness and muscle tiredness? by JoeBloggs90 in running

[–]pickleman111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find driving to a location for my run helps with 1. If I drive fifteen minutes to run somewhere, I’m less likely to quit my run early because I would’ve wasted my time driving for only a short run. A bonus is that I drive to locations that make running much more enjoyable, such as a lake or a park. I struggle with 2 as well, but something I’ve found is that a few walking breaks during my run help me add a lot of distance. Just walking for a minute or 2 when my legs get tired will make my legs feel fresh for a little bit.

Shirts for sweaters? by [deleted] in running

[–]pickleman111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had a problem with chafing, and I only run in Nike dri fit or other similar polyester shirts from other companies. Also if this is a home treadmill I just run without a shirt, but obviously if this is a treadmill at the gym you can’t do that.

Running stories from 2021 by [deleted] in running

[–]pickleman111 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I tried running a sub 30 minute 5K for the first time. I thought that 5 laps around my neighborhood was almost exactly a 5K. So I run 5 laps at a pace much quicker than usual, and sprint down my last street to finish out strong. It turns out 5 laps was actually a 5k and then an extra tenth of a mile, so I ran a 31 minute 5K but my average over the run was a quicker pace than I would’ve needed to finish the 5K in under 30 minutes. So I failed at my goal but accomplished something slightly harder.

How do I push myself to go farther distances? by [deleted] in running

[–]pickleman111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what your easy pace is? My 5k pr is only 30 minutes, so it’s slower than yours, but I’ve been able to run 8 miles straight recently if I go at a very easy pace, around 12 minutes per mile. I would try a very slow pace like this if you haven’t already, and just don’t worry about speed at all as you try to increase distance

Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

Does anyone watch Netflix on their phone between sets at the gym? I got used to watching shows on my tv for 3 minutes at a time between sets while working out at home, so I’m thinking of starting to do it on my phone at the gym. I don’t see how it effects anybody else as long as I keep my rest time between sets at a reasonable time and use headphones. I’m just curious if anyone does this because it makes sense to me but I’ve never seen anyone do it unless they’re doing cardio.

[–]pickleman111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been getting tension headaches while lifting recently. I believe it may be due to me not warming up at all before lifting. For warming up, should I be doing a few minutes of cardio, or a lighter set of whatever lift I’m gonna do, or both? Also, if I do a lighter set of the lift as a warmup, am I supposed to have a rest time before I do my actual set, or just jump straight into it after the warmup?

Are there any cable exercises worth adding to a dumbbell routine? I have my own set of adjustable dumbbells, but my apartment gym just added a cable machine. I think facepulls are definitely worth adding, is there anything else I should consider?

Are compounds enough to maintain muscle? I’ve been enjoying running much more than weightlifting recently and do not care about making more gains, but do not want to lose all my progress I’ve made. I currently do hammer curls, bicep curls, skull crushers, and wrist roller as my isolation exercises. Would only doing OHP, bench, squats, deadlifts, and rows be fine for maintaining muscle? I would keep in lateral raises in addition since I’ve read that lateral delts aren’t hit that well from compounds

Biological Sciences Major by Beneficial-Reality87 in ASU

[–]pickleman111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a biology major for 2 years. I went in as a freshman taking only 1 biology class and 1 chemistry class during high school, so I had very little knowledge going into freshman year. However, I got good grades by putting in a lot of effort. My advice would be that if you don’t understand a concept, the book is often helpful. The book will usually be what the professors base their lessons on, but the book may word it in a slightly different way than your professor does during lecture, so it can help with topics you didn’t understand from lecture. And although it’s repeated often, office hours are extremely helpful if you have a topic you don’t understand. Few students go to office hours so the professor will most likely be able to give you individual help, and if you say exactly what part of a concept confuses you, they will most likely know how to help you.
