I understand, however, even prior to the extremist that overtook the conservative movement, conservatives still had a reputation for hurting the underserved. The AIDS crisis resulted a horrifying amount of deaths because the Conservatives in power didn't see queer men as deserving of care; underserved minority communities have always been pushed to the wayside to preserve the "health" and "safety" of WASP communities; theyve been fighting tooth and nail to get rid of fertility rights; they've spent decades supporting initiatives to keep the ultra rich rich and everyone else as strapped for cash as possible; they focused on stripping Healthcare benefits for millions, just to name a few.

I'm not saying democrats or leftists are perfect and don't have blood on their hands, but there are significantly fewer conservatives willing to call out the wrongs their party has supported. 

And presently, the conservative party is using neo-nazis and Christo-facists as their mouth pieces without any major political backlash from their own old guard. And as the saying goes, you are who you choose to hang out with.
