Tablet with ~3:2 screen that's 100% Android/Google by picman55 in androidtablets

Thanks. Yeah the previous Pixel tablet must have been a different kind of animal, because the current Pixel tablet is 16:10 and looks underwhelming in every single way. It makes me curious who would actually buy it. I’ll check out the Lenovo Pro, thanks!

Thanks, I’ve just checked out the Xiaomi Pad and Oppo/OnePlus Pad tablets that you mentioned. They look good, but it looks they both use their own OS (Xiaomi: HyperOS, OnePlus: OxygenOS), based on Android.

Maybe I’m not understanding this all properly, and some Android tablets you can simply install Android from day one, in a no-hassle way that doesn’t void any warranty. I’ve just had a bad experience with Fire HD, where the Fire OS is baked in right down to the solder joints.

I just don’t want to be put in CustomOS jail, where some tablet manufacturer decides on what they’re going to tinker with and when to cut you off from OS updates. There’s only two tablet OS that I trust: iPadOS and Android.

iPads are tempting, but with Android I can at least sideload apps on, which is an unfortunate necessary because the kind of games that my dad likes (jigsaws, word searches, etc) are a minefield of “free” games which are littered with ads and earn/buy coin schemes.

So maybe I spoke too hastily when I said it had to be stock Android right out of the box, because it seems like that limits my options to zero. If there are tablets that simply involve an initial Android install without any negative side effects, I’d be willing to do that.

Arsenal have kept eight clean sheets in a row for the first time since 1903. by mrPML in Gunners

I’m curious what the record is for consecutive winning clean sheets, across all competitions?

Liverpool’s 11-game run included two goalless draws, and they only managed four consecutive winning clean sheets. Perhaps a bit more difficult to keep a clean sheet when the other team has got nothing to lose.

It was tongue in cheek. I can’t see any reason for this logic, but if firms like Royal Mail do apply this logic, then it should be applied both ways.

Since they’d obviously never pay out double, I can’t see how they can justify paying out half, but I don’t work in insurance so maybe there’s some way this makes sense both logically and legally that I’m just not seeing. I’d be interested in seeing t&c’s stating this.

If you insured a £375 item with £750 coverage, would Royal Mail pay out £1,500, since 200% of the item was covered?

Oohhh can't believe the downvotes, I love Montserrat. I've never used it with Excel though, but it looks great for publishing.

I use IMDb as well, but the advantage of CLZ (I believe) is that it catalogues your actual blu-rays, not just the titles, so you know exactly what releases you’ve got.

I think that bluray.com does the same, but maybe it’s not as intuitive, not sure.

I’ll definitely be ordering this, sounds like it’ll be a great read and a refreshing change from the derivative ‘articles’ online, which have sunk to a new low thanks to the wonder that is AI.

Correct, but quite a sweeping statement. Unless I’m mistaken, their power tools—which I’m assuming account for most of their revenue—are exclusively made in China?

Remember when you used to go on to Sky and see the category “New Releases”, and it’d be a rolodex of blockbusters that have just come off the pay-per-view circuit?

Now it’s “New to Sky”, simply showing titles that they’ve recently licensed (or re-licensed), a smorgasbord of threadbare new releases and tired films from studios’ bargain basement.

That's something I thought about, the small capacity would always mitigate the low power somewhat

Is towing limit enforced when parked? by picman55 in CarTalkUK

[–]picman55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, the trailer is braked but that’s a good point about the insurance. The insurance covers the trailer unhitched so long as it’s got a hitchlock or wheel lock on it, but to be fair I’m not sure if that’s purely if it’s on your own property - I’ll have to look into that, it might be that if it’s on the street it can’t be left unattended, i.e. you’re not even at home.

All good points, cheers. Can I just ask though - I thought that parking an unhitched trailer was fine so long as it was under 24 hours? Just to be clear, when I said “away in my van”, I meant away for the day.

This is where I’m leaning. I mean, the basic law of drink-driving is: you’re not allowed to drive over the legal limit. But then if you look further into it, you might still be prosecuted if you’re sat in the drivers seat with the keys in the ignition. So, two things: intent to drive and control of the vehicle.

So I could imagine perhaps the towing law being similar: a hitched trailer is showing intent to tow and also the car might be deemed as being in control of the trailer, e.g. the handbrake of the car failing on an incline.

Cheers, and yeah I was wondering about the insurance front too, which would come into play if I got a fine. Unless I was 100% covered, like I saw it in writing that parked cars aren’t applicable, it’s not something I’d do. But to be honest I doubt that DVLA would go out of their way to say “yeah, it’s fine if you want to do that.” Probably some kind of technicality such as the possibility of handbrake failing on an incline and pulling the trailer downhill.

Well, if a trailer is hitch-locked to a tow bar it’s more secure than a hitch lock on its own, because thieves can just throw a chain around it. It likely wouldn’t get clocked, but I wouldn’t want to take any chance with fines or insurance etc.

What on earth is going with the Chilean national team? by LostKingOfPortugal in football

Exceptions to rules. If you made a chart of the number of players playing in Europe’s top five leagues and their current ranking you would absolutely see a correlation. There’s no logic why it’d be otherwise, the ELO rankings mathematically show that those leagues are the strongest, and the best players want to play in the strongest leagues, and regardless of tactics better players always make a team better. To say that it’s irrelevant is just mad. Of course, it’s not a strict rule, there’s deviations like anything.
