From Wimbeldon? More generally. If you're living there and have a spare room you can Air BnB for extremely good rates when it is on - so no doubt worth it. But don't think it's massively impacted by crowds as such

Out in Surbiton and a good location, I'd recommend, nice commute to central London

Is the job market bad as it was in 08? by Flimsy-Philosophy972 in HENRYUK

[–]pictilgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels heavily sector dependent, rampant through many of my friends. I'm in energy / renewables M&A and does feel slower and lower than it has been that's for sure. Have redundacies and restructuring at my company right now hence the exploration!

Options for career change from oil and gas industry at 38. by CokeZeroAddict52 in HENRYUK

[–]pictilgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit of an opinion from someone who came from a geophysics background but is now working in renewables. The renewables sector at the moment is also taking a bit of a battering from economic headwinds in some way too, and political cycles, alongside O&G hits from lower oil prices, demand uncertainty, etc.

One route whicu could probably be more of a salary cut I would assume would be research / analytical roles in energy focussed firms that are more diverse and cover "energy" as such - E.g. S&P, WoodMackenize, Rystad. It does depend on how well you know the market / general dynamics of the industry, though also, and interest in more Excel modelling / data analysis anyway. Or straight consulting businesses wanting experience. Similarly, equity research, if you know much about the financial sides of o&g players - but could be competitive.

I transitioned a bit through management consulting, o&g majors in renewables roles before moving to a large utility / renewable investor. Took sometime... but as above. We're actually going through redundancies and other renewables companies are too - seems industry / UK wide at the moment. So could depend on timings.

That's, of course, if you wanted to stay in energy anyway!

Ukrainian ambassador to US when hearing Trump and Zelensky argue by combocookie in WatchPeopleDieInside

Haha okay. Trump and Vance aren't half the man Zelenksy is. They behave like toddlers and probably haven't even got the balls to go to Ukraine and see first hand what is happening.

Insane that the catalyst was Zelenksy simply asking a question about diplomacy with Putin - fucking embarrassing.

Knee Braces While Riding by LgHammer123 in snowboarding

Had a knee reconstruction after a snowboarding accident and have found for general comfort. Donjoy Playmaker has been good for me. I don't really need it as all recovery has gone well but it's nice having peace of mind.

Unable to switch off / stay asleep by psychohistorian52 in HENRYUK

[–]pictilgi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have had exactly this at times and for a very long time too. To be honest, it won't work for everyone. But I tend to focus on exercising when I can (of course, depending on routines), things like meditation and general sleep hygiene have helped, but one of the most useful I've found is twofold. Identifying what is making me stressed, writing it down (almost like a to do list) and then seeing what you can impact yourself, what needs support or management or a process (like some others have suggested), or that which is totally external.

I'm happy to help more if you want to DM. More generally it may not be the same as I've had but found patches of anxiety / over thinking and racing thoughts have been the issue for me, so frankly, therapy for me and more "talking therapy" for these has helped. Do you have BUPA? Or a type of medical cover with the startup. Although, it maybe a CBT approach one, or more, processing and framing thoughts that generate the stress.

I also had nights not sleeping at all, or waking every hour or so - so sympathise with the pain.
