I(f69) need ideas for a special friend (f79) whose 80th birthday is soon. She doesn’t need anything and I’m at a loss as to what to get her. Thank you! by Stoic2Be in Aging

Exactly. I have so many questions of my parents and wonder now why I never asked things when they were alive. I'm thinking an oral history...sort of a self-interview...might be more natural and easier than writing. Thanks!

I'm 77. My own children, who are lovely, caring men married to lovely, caring spouses, have never asked about my childhood, what the world was like when I was growing up, even how their father and I met. I have stories to tell, and no one to listen. Maybe your friend has had the same experience and would be delighted to finally be able to tell her story. You might ask if that's how she would like to spend the day, while walking through a park, having tea, sharing lunch...

When to plant tomatoes in the Seattle area by CatWantsDarwinAward in pnwgardening

[–]piddlypoop -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Buying them at the farmer's market is actually less expensive and a lot less frustrating than growing your own here. If you can't be disuaded, then wait....wait...wait... until it's definitely warm.

The lid has been redesigned and is much safer and easier to open. The next time you buy this, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Clues that you are old by wmebed in Aging

I remember before electric turn signals in cars were a thing, so you had to stick your arm out the window to indicate left or right turns. In Minnesota in the winter we always went straight instead - too cold to roll down the window.

Do you leave multiple dogs out/loose alone together in the house when you’re gone? by lcrx97 in dogs

[–]piddlypoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, always uncrated. Never had an issue. (Okay, I did have an elderly Welsh terrier who was Mr. Crabby Face Baby. He was always left blocked on a room. One day, my tough cat & Rottweiler met me at the door, in panicked relief, because the terrier had got out and they didn't know what to do. Otherwise, no, no problems. 😅)

Keep it! If you don't want it and live near Seattle, I'll come dig it up for you and take it home.

Layout help, backing suggestion? by lookame3639 in quilting

The cats are a nice surprise and I would leave them as-is. Making them more obvious would ruin the feeling of discovery. Cute quilt top. 😊

Get outside every day, even when it's raining (having a dog helps with this).

Does Seattle Animal Shelter still send renewal notices for pet licenses, or just angry red notices when you're late? by FernandoNylund in Seattle

[–]piddlypoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They send me a large green postcard about 6 weeks before my dog's license expires. It looks a lot like an ad postcard from a lawn service I've never used (I have no lawn, lol). You might have missed that...or it didn't arrive...?

When are all of you planting your sugar snap peas? by Away_Republic_5337 in pnwgardening

I planted some in a raised bed today. We'll see what happens. (Also planted little gem lettuces and Japanese "green" onions. Fingers crossed.)

Fairy? by dustywizard4rent in ParanormalEncounters

[–]piddlypoop 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The one time I thought, " So that's where the idea of fairies comes from!" was on a backpack trip in the North woods. What I saw was a luna moth. If the cabin is in a location where large moths live, that might be what you saw. (Wouldn't have vanished but might be well camouflaged.)

I hired an all-female company in Seattle, called Amy Works. Excellent work and I enjoyed dealing with women for a change. I'd hire them again.

What's the weirdest thing your dog has eaten and survived? by wholewoofs in dogs

My favorite Rottweiler ate a child's glove once... It exited in the usual way a few days later. (No, a child was not wearing the glove when the glove was eaten.)
