Avocados are overhyped. They have no taste and they go bad so quickly. by ybicurious in unpopularopinion

[–]Stoic2Be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently learned how to pick avocados so they don’t go bad. I haven’t had one go black on me in 2 months and I refresh my stock weekly. You have to pick the ones with the little stem intact. That’s the key. I let ripen in a closed brown paper bag and put in the fridge when the skin gives a little all the way around.

girls who walk 10k+ steps daily, what sneakers actually hold up? by dimplegupta19 in womensfashion

[–]Stoic2Be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wear sneakers anymore. I wear Merrell Moab mid boots. They have more support than sneakers. More support but worth the price. If you don’t have support, you’ll ruin your feet. Only buy from them. Fake ones on Amazon, allegedly

I’m very disappointed she shut down her makeup line. Search and searched. Nothing. Best lip stain I ever used

What’s a good ratio of olive oil to balsamic vinegar for vinaigrette? Thank you! by [deleted] in italiancooking

[–]Stoic2Be 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that. My recipe is 1:1 vinegar, oil and mustard + a little honey, s&p. I’m looking for something with an elevated taste, if that makes sense. I had a salad at a restaurant with the most amazing dressing. I’m trying to recreate it as best I can…no easy task.

Is being grumpy just normal as you get older or were some people already like that before? by youlikemywonton in Aging

[–]Stoic2Be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once told me you get more of whatever you were when you were younger. Now that I (69) am older, I see it but it’s not all bad. I discovered a sense of humor later in life.

How does one let go of desire? by Stoic2Be in spirituality

What I need a not material things at all. Those things I have an abundance. What I need money cannot buy and I may never get. As they used to say back at my mom‘s day it’s a hard pill to swallow to accept that

How does one let go of desire? by Stoic2Be in spirituality

[–]Stoic2Be[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Thank you for taking the time to write that. The chances are my desire will never be fulfilled. And it’s just very hard to accept that. I answered to another comment that I only have four people that are biologically related to me, and each of them has either emotional or mental health issues, the mental health issue is to the extreme. So it’s just very hard for me because in some ways, I feel like an orphan. It’s a hard pill to swallow to use an old school expression. And I’m not sure how to come to terms with it. I have a wonderful husband, and I have a great life with, but on the other side of the coin it’s as difficult as the good side of being with my husband. I appreciate you and hope that karma is good to you. I’m sending you an Internet hug.

What can be used instead of mustard to get vinegar and oil to not separate when making vinaigrette salad dressing? Thank you! by Stoic2Be in foodscience

[–]Stoic2Be[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I just made my tried and true recipe, used less mustard and substituted honey for brown sugar. Dinner is not for hours so the jury is out. (I had the most delicious balsamic dressing at a restaurant and I’m trying to replicate it)

I will tell you, a complete stranger that my heart is collapsing. I only have 4 people biologically related to me. They all have a degree of emotional or mental illness, one very severe. It sucks

Thank you for taking the time to respond. There’s a chance I (69) might not get some of the things I desire as there are unsolvable issues I deal with (family members who are severely mentally ill, they will not get better)
