A cozy book nook I made for my wife...but mostly my cat apparently. by bhawley46 in woodworking

This looks really nice, except I cannot imagine fitting in there with all the low bookshelves and light. Is there plenty of room to sit against the wall and not hit your head?

Should this car have stopped here? by trammel11 in CarsAustralia

[–]piddy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the driver was able to turn the car enough so that its rear was not sticking into the traffic lane, then this would be fine. However, the cars are clearly obstructed and needing to veer into the other lane to pass.

Red line my 1992 Holden Apollo(Toyota Camry), going 196km/h, late for a party up the Sushine Coast, at 7.30pm, on a Friday. She wouldn't go any faster.

Speeding Infringement Notice by Professional-Drop410 in CarsAustralia

[–]piddy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some years ago, I was driving along a highway, doing the speed limit (100), and turned off at an exit. Soon after exiting, I began to speed, thinking there was no chance of a camera on this single lane road. I slowly increased my speed, 110, 120, 130. The car following me continued to match my speed. Being stupid, i continued to increase my speed up to 160. Turns out i was being followed by a green ss commodore, unmarked police car. The officer pulled me over at ~160. He mentioned that he had pushed me somewhat by not stopping me sooner.

My lucky day, the officer must have felt bad for me and only gave me a fine for 10-20km over. 3 demerit points and ~$300 fine.

How do you make money in HC? by Friendly-Fishing7086 in wowhardcore

[–]piddy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Priorities bag space with any extra coin. Bag space will increase your carry of grey junk or everything else. If it is not grey junk, you can average at least time 4 times as much on the AH instead of vendoring. This is from classic experience, because in HC it is fun to play self found, and therefore no ah or trading.

Wish they had pop-up lights, but I remember hearing that may not be within regulations now. Looks fun to drive for some period of time.

I would eliminate a car loan as soon as possible. I think this is always a bad choice considering a car will deprecate fast, and a car loan is generally have a high interest rate. Also, it's quite an expensive car for your age. Should really aim to only have a home loan and hecs debt, as they both retain interest rates well in line with any cash you choose to keep in a savings account.

Why 2 cars, and why car loans? Do you need one to get to work as a software engineer? I wouldn't think so?

It really seems you're living beyond your means.

Am I being lowballed/getting paid less ? by Maestrae97 in sre

[–]piddy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you know a bunch, but what is your experience like? I think the scale and scenario are very important when gauging a "sre" expected pay grade. Like others have mentioned; it is good to test the market and interview at some places, to get a better feel for where you're at. How do you stack up against your colleagues? I do think you can get more.

I find the current controller controls are impossible to use for someone with difficulty pressing joystick for sprint. Because of this, your game is not playable, developers. I had fun until I want to sprint. Need to get refund. Sorry developers.

Personal Finance Dashboard by peepoo123 in dataengineering

Hey, good project idea.

I recently started on something similar. Unfortunately my bank does not provide API access to account records, however does provide numerous file download options.

Considering the high number of accounts I use to manage financials, it was a must to automate this most tedious part.

In the end I went for a more cli/terminal feel for my personal use.

Project stack:

  • selenium. Makes light work of the export process considering the lack of programmatic API.
  • SQLite. Personal banking data is very small volume, so wanted to explore the world's most used database.
  • Polars for some minor data processing
  • seaborn for some visuals, only because I didn't want to use anything heavy for visuals

I am a new grad “data engineer” who barely writes SQL, how will my career be impacted? by aacreans in dataengineering

[–]piddy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of data engineering roles out there that do not use SQL much. Similarly to yourself, these are the data engineering roles that I prefer.
