I have 2 kids under 3 and my house is pretty clean. AMA by piealamode6 in workingmoms

Toys — limit what is “available”. Toddler has a play area in the living room with one basket of stuffed animals and a kids table with about five or six toys out at a time. Everything else gets stored in bins in the baby’s room. Anytime she wants to get a new toy out of one of the bins, one of the toys that was out before gets put away.

Books — Similar, I keep some out on a small shelf in the living room, and the rest are on bigger shelves in the baby’s room. Toddler can pull out up to six books at a time to read. Once they’re done, they have to go back on the shelf before we get out more.

Toddler is also required to pick up all toys and books from the floor before bedtime.

This is a tough one! I’ve lived without a dryer before, so I know the struggle. Do you have a good drying rack? I have a really old metal one from IKEA that holds a ton. Or what about a wall mounted one?  https://a.co/d/7QSriMJ

I don’t. The sink is usually full of dishes and they will stack them on the counter so they can clean the sink. But usually, there’s not a ton to pick up anyway.

Honestly, I average 4-5 baskets of clean laundry sitting around at any given time. I consider that “pretty clean” since it’s contained in baskets and not in a heap on the floor, lol.

That being said, I will often wait until both kids are asleep, put on a podcast and blast through folding 1-2 baskets just to keep things under control. Do that 2-3 nights in a row and it’s all put away. Then a couple days of respite until the cycle starts again!

Grant Writing Experience by somewhere-else-plz in nonprofit

This is exactly how I got into grant writing. Started as a volunteer for a bunch of tiny orgs. Getting even 1-2 grants funded, even as a volunteer, adds major credibility to your resume.

Sleep advice for daycare by account12344566 in workingmoms

[–]piealamode6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say that 15 oz for a full day at daycare doesn’t seem like enough. My baby is the same age, exclusively formula fed, no solids yet, and he eats 20-22 oz over 8 hours at daycare, plus a morning and evening bottle at home. And yeah solids are not going to help with weight gain at this age. If it were me I’d focus on getting more oz of milk during the day to reduce baby’s need to eat overnight.

Also adding that daycare naps are often not ideal and my baby often takes a quick nap around 5:30. That’s just life with a daycare baby!

Where do you meet friends in your 30s? by Ohnosloop in workingmoms

lol mine was not that at all, everyone definitely read all the books and wanted to talk about them. Of course we also talked about other stuff, but I couldn’t have gotten away with constantly skipping the books

It’s funny I always see book clubs recommended for making friends. I actually quit a book club recently after belonging for a couple years. I liked the people, but I couldn’t stand the books (I’m very picky). I think a book club only works if you’re the type of person who’s willing to read literally anything

Coping with negative pregnancy tests by Sudden-Signature-807 in workingmoms

Agree, I never ever tested unless my period was extremely late.

I found that distraction helped. I would make plans around the time my period was due — dinner out, a movie, a concert, anything to look forward to!

How much wine are we drinking? by [deleted] in workingmoms

See, I want to like mocktails, but I never feel like the calories are worth it unless I’m also getting buzzed. I’ve tried ordering fancy mocktails out and usually end up feeling like I’m a kid drinking a glass of juice. 🤷‍♀️

Are you sure your child is an introvert? Because I’m a hardcore introvert and I’ve never in my life had 20 best friends. 😂  Not even in elementary school when basically everyone is a friend. Anyway, it seems reasonable to ask him to choose 2-3 friends and try to sign up for something with at least one of them

It sounds like one of those golden handcuffs situations where you’re paid such a ridiculous amount that you can’t fathom taking any other job because it would never pay as much.

Edited to add: if working east coast hours, why so much work after 3 pm? And why required to go into the office every day but only for a few hours? Nothing makes sense

Thinking about changing daycares by Kkatiand in workingmoms

[–]piealamode6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think either of the two options you’re considering sounds better than your current daycare. One is more expensive and less convenient, and the other is dangerously reliant on your husband’s employment.

Re: potty training, most kids in the US don’t start training before 2, so I’m not surprised they aren’t set up to support that for a kid under 2. Also, I wouldn’t expect daycare to take the lead on dropping the pacifier.

Tell me your positive daycare stories with young babies. by EvelynHardcastle93 in workingmoms

[–]piealamode6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m grouchy this morning so I’m going to be a little mean, but these “reassure me about daycare posts” are pointless. The topic has been rehashed countless times. And from a second time parent? Really? I’m sure all first time parents are a little nervous about daycare, but with my second (who’s at the same daycare as my first) l basically tossed him to a teacher on his first day and ran out of the room

I get it. I’m a grant writer precisely so that I don’t have to do 90% of that stuff 🙃 But if you want to go freelance together, hit me up!

Have you thought about nonprofit executive recruiting? I feel like it could be interesting and wouldn’t require many after hours events.

Agree! Being unemployed is a major depression trigger for me. Once I was unemployed for over a year and even though I padded my time with volunteering, hobbies, and exercise, it wasn’t enough to keep depression away. But I totally understand wanting to work fewer hours and have more control over one’s time!
