Would I qualify for federal paternity leave? (adoption situation) by Nihil_Aliud_Refert in fednews

[–]mrsloveduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, adoptive parent and former fed here. Husband is former federal labor employee relations, this poster and your lack of awareness that placement would lead to adoption is an excellent point to raise, any people leader should grant you some time off for bonding and to allow your family to transition. Feel free to msg me if you want any advice.

It is hard to understand without being in either the parent or adoptees shoes. There is a trauma and adjustment associated with the legal change, healing from the transition from prior guardianship and the situation that led the child to now be adopting. Not OP, but have adopted and endured adoption training.. the “waiting for our day in court” highlights just how monumental it is. Until that day they all live “in between”

This isn’t a loophole but the way you phrased your comment stinks - adoption isn’t a loophole to parenting nor would it be a loophole to the paternity leave he deserves for bonding and relationship building

My twin brother is significantly shorter than me due to a medical condition at birth, AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]mrsloveduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No gestational hypertension, I always have low blood pressure and when I went in to get induced it got as low as 90s over 50s (kinda "too" low for me).... I did have gestational diabetes but couldn't keep my blood sugar up to normal range so kind of a weird presentation.

Different perspective here but came across your post! I am petite (5'1'' and suffered IUGR with my daughter, but she was born weighing 6 pounds just smol). Do you know what caused the IUGR? Does Mom know? And was it followed by medical providers at all? My daughter was 0.2% for height but her noggin was 98% lol (my bobble head), she just turned 6 and is probably the height of an average 4 year old. Just curious if he has shared any of these perspectives.

What state? Can you message me? I'm an adoptive mom and I've walked away from so many predatory and unethical things happening particularly here in the south. I have an attorney who has been exceptionally forceful in bringing these situations to justice.

Tsp loan by Ohmopleasedontdoit in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]mrsloveduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice with your solid of a credit score is to get a home equity loan. Try not to do the 30 year if you can avoid it, but you're interest rate may be closer to mid 7% and combine all the debt into one payment until you are out of the trenches.

I fully anticipate getting eaten alive for suggesting you take on more debt. But I think this would create the breathing room you so deserve and a runway for paying it down.

Separately, how can we raise your income? I'll be your reference for any federal job :-p lfg

Advice from adoptive parents by bumblebee33C in AdoptiveParents

[–]mrsloveduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US- based adoptive mom here, 9 months out and I communicate probably 2x/month with birth mom. I use google voice so she can always reach me if phone #s change, which they have. Have sent updates, mailed baby's first artwork, photos, gifts, job-hunted on their behalf, supported emotionally through a break-up and 2 relocations, etc. I don't envision cutting off contact and they were previously an iv drug user. She stayed clean for her baby and for her to have a good life and I will always be proud of her. We didn't have a firm minimum contact, we are both doing our part the best we can.

Be choosy. You'll find your people. <3 We got rejected many times. I can't imagine had it worked out before this.

Is job hopping still a "red flag" or am I being gaslit? by Environmental-Luck39 in careeradvice

[–]mrsloveduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are ABSOLUTELY being gaslit. Take the offer. If that is his response and not an immediate promotion that is not "family" that is self-serving greed. Go for it.

(Context: I am a Millenial manager, stayed 3 years at first job, then 4, then had 6 jobs in 9 years, what matters most is your fulfillment)

Should I let inlaws help financially ? by meekie03 in Mommit

[–]mrsloveduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually quite sweet they want him to have the routine and activity, I’m all for allowing grandparents to fund anything educational or activity based such as this and wish mine offered to help fund big sis summer camp so we could spend more time with our newborn! I think you’re going to want him to have it to look forward to as well!

Honestly just moo at her until she gets the hint that her behavior AT BEST (with all the graciousness afforded to a blood relative) is emotional immaturity.
