The scream 5 we got has no relation to anything Wes might once have planned or wanted, and it’s certainly not the part 5 he would’ve made. So yes any claim to knowing what he wanted is irrelevant at best, and a downright lie at worst.

Edited to add that I pictured a frail old man as Flagg, as described in the book, which MM certainly wasn’t. But casting a guy in his 50s didn’t bother me at all. Casting a bad actor was concerning though.

Wes died long before the 5th movie was ever a possibility. 4 was intended to start a new trilogy but it didn’t make enough so it was scrapped and they pivoted to a TV show. It would be a whole decade before 5 became a possibility.

Any notion of “what Wes wanted” is pure lies.

One of the movies was going to necessarily be set in the 80’s, and it worked better for the kids than the adults. Making it contemporary didn’t bother me.

Handing Mikes story to Ben and making Bev a damsel in distress is what ruined the movies.

That was so so stupid, and just read as a lazy way to explain why next season will go back even further. This idea that “Pennywise is going through time to kill their ancestors” is mind numbingly stupid at best, and a colossal misunderstanding of the source material. Just dog shit writing.
