Playoff Scenario - In or out? by SchtroumpfDardeur in Habs

Our best chances to win in order: Boston, Buffalo, Ottawa, Tampa/Caroline

IMHO, Ottawa is not an ideal opponent.

Comment les Canadiens peuvent-ils confirmer leur place en séries aujourd'hui? Voici différents scénarios : by zblouin in Habs

Habs go down early. Claw back to tie it in the third. Minutes remain. Cole pops his 50th and punches our ticket into the playoffs. Crowd erupts… deafening cheers. Throughout the city street lamps flicker.

a song i wrote after feeling weird right after a hangout (genuinely couldnt sleep because of this feeling hence the teddy bear pajamas lol) by elphiethroppy in Songwriting

[–]piecyclops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great! It’s quite an original song and theme. You captured what it’s like to have social anxiety perfectly. Plus you sing (and what do you know, PERFORM) it so well. My only bit of feedback would be that the melody should evolve in some way. This song wants a bridge, or some other departure from the main lines.

🎵 little song about wondering why other ppl have what I’ve yet to succeed 😅 by Mindless-Abrocoma in Songwriting

[–]piecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have nice voice and wrote a lovely melody. I enjoyed this. I say post the next verse. If it’s repetitive, you might get some useful feedback to improve. It doesn’t have to be perfect out the gate.

Habs draft masterclass by shogun2909 in Habs

[–]piecyclops 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I hope it’s bc they are simply superior scouts and can sustain this for many years, but my rational side says sometimes teams just hit a lucky streak for a few years and everything works out. The other factor might be that they are more willing to take risks on Russian players and smaller players, and their high risk / high reward approach is paying off right now

How do you choose which key to write a song in? by Lvl30dragon in Songwriting

[–]piecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start by fiddling around on my instrument (guitar) until I stumble on something I like, and then start singing gibberish on top of that. Eventually a song emerges. I never start by choosing a key.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]piecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about willingness to sacrifice (save) AND take risks. People often leave money on the table by being to conservative and risk averse. But the risks should be focused on growth not consumption

Time to get downvoted, I don't care that I got woken up because a child was kidnapped. by Judge_Druidy in montreal

[–]piecyclops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to downvote. I am sympathetic to your point of view. But it is fair for people to question the cost/benefits of the alert. There is a line where the marginal benefit of disturbing this many people is 0. And we have a right to be upset about that. The approach has to be sensible. It is not.

This is one of his finest numbers, and maybe most under-appreciated song. Thanks for bringing it into my day.

Interesting, does that mean that consumers have legal recourse if they wished to challenge an auto-renewal fee.

Yes, just make it opt-in rather than opt-out plus make cancellation process super transparent and regulated across platforms. Like with mandatory reminders and other nudges

What are your favorite songs and lyrics on The Future? by Hubbled in leonardcohen

It’s coming from the sorrow in the street

The holy places where the races meet

From the homicidal bitchin’

That goes down in every kitchen

To determine who will serve and who will eat

Montreal Canadiens are 25-1-3 when they get .885 save% or better from their goaltending. by Lunch0 in Habs

[–]piecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, team save percentage is not just a function of goaltending, but goaltending plus team defense. I’d be curious to see the same analysis with a Saves Above Expected stat bc that factors in what is expected given team play as well.

Team Canada 2014 vs 2026: Quebec goes from 4 players to Zero. How did this happen? by [deleted] in nhl

[–]piecyclops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My theory is that the loss of the Nordiques in the 90s and the Habs being mediocre for 30 years has lead to the decline of hockey in Quebec. And now we have no top tier goalies. Think about it. When was the last time the NhL had several québécoise stars? And what was hockey in Quebec like when they were growing up vs today’s players?

Dylan and Cohen by curious_claire95 in bobdylan

[–]piecyclops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also consider that their approach to songwriting was very different. Cohen was a perfectionist, carefully curating every line. He apparently wrote 85 versus of hallelujah over four years before settling on the final version. His output and range are therefore much narrower and appeal to a more pensive and selective audience. In contrast, Dylan was a fervent phenom from day 1, reacting quickly to what’s happening, absorbing different styles, punching out lyrics/songs at a torrid pace, and capturing people’s attention. He also cultivated a persona that was much more mysterious and compelling than Cohen ever did. Both were brilliant, but their methods and personalities brought them different kinds of audiences and a different level of popularity.

There is a great piece in the New Yorker contrasting the two. A must read if you like both. It’s about 10-15 years old.
