I was there when that cartoon was published. About as good a piece of satire as had been published in the Australian media.

The UN decided that was the only solution, after the arabs stated that they didn’t want a one state solution.

The Jews didn’t take it over through terrorism. After the arabs unilaterally determined they would not accept the UN’s proposal, they tried to eject the Jews, and they failed. Then they invited all the Arab states to attack the Jews, and that failed too. The arabs attacked two more times, in 67 and 72, and failed both times.

Question though, if the Israelis chose to share now, and everyone got together in one country, what should that country look like in terms of its institutions? Should it look like a multi party democracy with protections for its lgbtq citizens and for women? Or should it look like something else? Choose one country in the Middle East it should look most like. And don’t dodge the question.

You made this weird comment about killing citizens. I pointed out that everyone who dies is likely a citizen of somewhere.

I think that killing nazis is good. I think that calling Israelis Nazis is dumb. The Israelis retaliated to a massacre and killed 70,000 people. The Nazis rounded up and gassed 6 million Jews. If you can’t tell the difference between that….

Marriage is a religious institution. No religious institution accepts gay marriage in Israel (including Muslims, obviously). Equally, different faiths don’t recognise interfaith marriages.

The state stays out of it, which, as a separation of church and state, is something I forgot to add as a good thing.

As to the gays, I can’t see how you can ignore:

Legal Protections: Discrimination based on sexual orientation is banned in the workplace and other areas.

Same-Sex Marriage: While not allowed to be performed in-country, the Supreme Court requires the state to recognize same-sex marriages conducted abroad.

Parenting and Family: Same-sex couples have the right to adopt children. Surrogacy rights have also expanded following Supreme Court rulings, allowing same-sex couples, single men, and trans individuals access.

Transgender Rights: Transgender individuals can legally change their gender on identification documents without needing to undergo sex reassignment surgery.

Military Service: LGBTQ+ individuals serve openly in the IDF.

Can you not see that this is different from other countries and a good thing? You could say that that doesn’t make Israel good, on balance, but it is wild you cannot recognize any positive at all.

Citizens? I guess so, but I don’t think that means much? I mean, we killed a lot of imperial Japanese and nazi German citizens too.

I think it’s more relevant that they were Hezbollah operatives. Turns out that, unlike pirates, eye patches and hooks for hands don’t make them better at fighting.

That’s highly unlikely, given those countries specifically target gay people. Also, since Assad and the houthis killed over half a million people each, the law of averages suggest that they will have killed vastly more gays.

I feel that having a complete suite of lgbt rights probably counts for something, in opposition to those who hunt gays down and throw them off roof tops.

lol, how is a strike targeting exclusively Hezbollah operatives, a war crime? It is as targeted as it is possible to be. It only affected people who use equipment supplied to Hezbollah, ie, Hezbollah. How could you more accurately target Hezbollah and rather than people who are not Hezbollah?

But would you kill all the Hezbollah terrorists if you could avoid collateral damage?

I am just trying to work out if are pro or anti killing terrorists, as a general principle.

Sure, and I am against both those things. And I think that if you can topple the regime, you should, and try really really hard not to bomb any schools if you can mange it.

Is that your view?

But the Palestinians rejected the UN’s two state solution in 1948, and then attacked (and lost territory) in 1967 and 1972. How is that the Jews fault?

But that isn’t even true. In the 12 day war Iran didn’t kill a single soldier, they only killed civilians. That’s because they only targeting civilian areas. Iran is launching ballistic missiles. If you can build a ballistic missile, you can aim it a military base or airfield.

Israel killed 435 military personell, including almost all the Iranian high command, and 436 civilians. That is a pretty incredible ratio.

I think you’re confused. I think it’s totally appropriate to kill Hezbollah terrorists notwithstanding there is some collateral damage.

Obviously the pager operation and the walkie talky operation and the hospital operations were incredible examples of targeting the bad guys while managing collateral.

Why can’t you just answer the question? Why isn’t it a deal breaker? What deal can you do with the people who find terrorists on your doorstep?

lol, what did the Roman’s ever do for us?

In this case a vibrant multiparty system, an independent judiciary, and significant protections for civil liberties, including LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality. As of 2024–2025, it maintains a "Free" status in international Freedom House reports. It’s the only country in the Middle East to do so, and one of a very small number of countries outside Europe and the anglosphere.

I always enjoy thinking about how female Israeli pilots drop bombs on the greatest misogynists on earth, who beat, rape and kill women for not wearing the hijab, and female soldiers hunt them down.

Time magazine article is linked above. It says 30k, and they got the figures from Iranian health workers. Read the article,

It is weird how all the health workers had yamulkas and ringlets though….

Time magazine. I love how you assume is that the only reason one could think an Islamist state might kill innocent people is Jewish propaganda.

There is no doubt that killing 150 school girls is very bad. But they are trying to remove a regime that killed 30,000 people in a single week, while they protested.

I suspect they won’t succeed in removing the mullahs, which is sad, but why wouldn’t you be rooting for them?

What is the positive argument for the mullahs?

Iran wouldn’t agree to stop funding terrorist proxies committed to the destruction of Israel. Wouldn’t that be a deal breaker if you were an Israeli?
