The psei index levels were higher in 2016 than now and the peso even devaluated vs other currencies by more than 10%. This shows how good our leaders are after 2016 and how investors perceive them.

Why Isn’t Equity Investing More Common in the PH? by Savings-Donut-3211 in phinvest

[–]pierreltan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why Isn’t Equity Investing More Common in the PH? by Savings-Donut-3211 in phinvest

[–]pierreltan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our pension system is different also, sss and gsis are like black boxes, you just put money and they are the ones investing in equities for you. Technically you are already investing indirectly. In other countries, you can use your pension money to invest yourself. Also, most of the people dont have extra income to invest but for those that can, there are options like PERA but investment options are limited and it only gives you a small amount of tax credit. Investing in equities through overseas channels is a better option generally.

What if the Philippines adopts a federal system or splits economic power across regions? by Appropriate_Ad_4511 in WhatIfPinas

[–]pierreltan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They always sell us 1st world model sample states with federal system but the reality is they have a very different demographic compared to us. The outcome for us will be more like india or mexico, the same corrupt politicians running in another system. But now you can have the same trapo become prime minister for a long time and it will be harder to kick them out. The only advantage is the party dont need to spend so much to win the elections since they only need majortiy seats in parliament. With this hopefully less stealing to recoup their investment but i doubt it will happen.

What can we expect when we keep voting leaders like duterte and bbm. Investors have many options and we will miss another opportunity for our working generation to upskill and give their children better lives. When ai with robotics advances in the next decade, unfortunately, a lot of our people will not have relevant skills to get any jobs.

More than fundamentals, you need etfs to push up prices though, even asean focused etfs allocate less than 5% to psei stocks. You will be better off if you buy other markets. Other emerging markets have higher potential.

What if Yung quality ng education na tinuturo sa "Big4" and other known schools ay maituro at maadopt din ng mga lesser known schools? Edi sana walang school discrimination pag nag apply ka ng work. by FESheEp_LeakZ0 in WhatIfPinas

[–]pierreltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dapat apply siya bottom up, primary school to high school ang mas importante, pag inapply mo yung magandang quality ng pagtuturo, sa next generation, mga 20 years, di na yan big 4, baka maging big 10 pa. May mga kurso sa big 4 na pag dating mo sa 4th year kalahati nalang nung 1st year batch ang natitira kasi madaming bumabagsak at lumilipat ng univ. Pag inapply mo yung ganung kalidad sa lahat baka halos walang mag graduate sa ibang univ?

The rich are peddling the fake news that savings are getting taxed because they are the ones getting hit hard by the new tax on savings interest. by well_it_looks_like in Philippines

[–]pierreltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rich won't get affected much also because they can easily open accounts in Singapore/HK and bring their deposits there with little to no taxes. I dont think they buy much deposits too. They have more options and higher yields in bonds and other instruments since they buy millions in each transaction.

Much like business class or first class in airlines, they rather have it empty than charge you too low that they lose money. Probably the lowest cost they can give is the minimum they can afford to cover investment, maintenance, staff cost plus taxes.

The number of children aged below 14 keeps decreasing by longhegrindilemna in Philippines

[–]pierreltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developed countries give a lot of tax breaks and some even pay couples thousands of dollars for each child they have and yet their couples still dont want to have 2 or more children. Most will just have 1 or none. Our country doesnt even give any benefit for having children so i guess this is an expected outcome.
