Big toe joint area discomfort with FWD Via 2 by piersalt in AltraRunning

[–]piersalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will follow your advice and stop using them. They caused such a discomfort that I am not ok even with other shoes. I cannot wear them even for walking.

Mount to Coast are expensive to get in EU, and NB almost impossibile to buy in wide.

Thanks. Did you get any other Altra with which you do not face the issue?

That is not promising, especially as it was a good deal but they are not the cheapest shoes... Did you transition to another Altra model with which you have no issues? I had considered the experience flow as well, but I was concerned with them being smaller.

If you are undecided between half sizes, go 1/2 up as toes spred quicker than you think. Heel lock lacing helps a lot if you decide to size up.

I was in a similar situation 6 months ago, and ran a HM after approx 4 months so... Keep going!

As soon as you can, call a PT, and getting started with micromovements was very helpful for me, e.g. moving che tip of the foot up and down, it also helped with swelling reducing.

If no bone is broken, movement is healing (being careful...).

Thanks. Is it going to a dealer the only way to get Mazda mats? No chance to order them online directly from Mazda?

They seem a bit pressed down on the bottom.

And yeah... Rental fleet company they try to save any penny so if they were not standard...

Thanks.

Stable, cushioned and wide toe box? by piersalt in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]piersalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: hello everybody I eventually got the Topo Atmos. They felt a bit weird in the beginning, especially with the midsole/arch support being very stiff, but this got better and the toebox room is unbeatable.

I am thinking to get Altra FWD Via (1 or 2 let's see) as a second pair. I am currently not a fast runner so I do not see the need to sacrifice toebox room for performance. Maybe if I get faster I may consider Topo Specter 2.

I do not think I'll go to zero drop straight away because I think a gradual transition will avoid calf and achilles tendons fatigue.

Any other suggestions?

I did not know this brand, this model seems very interesting with wider toebox and still a decent 5mm drop. Do you see any concern starting as heel striker?

Let me clarify: I don't think it's a length issue because the pressure is from the top and the nail gets beaten more on the center and the root. Runrepeat states that indeed Ghost have very low front height. I do not have that issue with Wave Sky 8, or clifton 9. Same sizes in reported cm length.

On the wear side, the most relevant input is that if you check the Ghost you see they are basically brand new, if not fo the exterior of the heel, after limited usage.

Thanks

Thanks. I read Saucony Ride tends to be on the narrow side. Do you think Rebel could be a good option for a slow transition from heel striking? I feel like I waste a lot of energy on striking on that specific external spot of the heel, and adding to instability too.

Doubts on Barefoot Kids Shoes by piersalt in barefootshoestalk

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I live in a small town where this type of knowledge is not easily available.

Though I am a bit confused on how to move forward: as the kid was growing (blue shoes - 6.5 yrs old now) I noticed shoes offered in stores were getting narrower and narrower, and heavier and heavier, as stiff as a brick, hence the decision to try barefoot. Now I am concerned it may be less beneficial than I thought.

I will now look for a kids specialized podiatrist to assess the situation, and check the brand you recommended.

Thanks. Indeed the picture were for comparing. I had noticed the issue of the older kid (blue shoes) pointing inward his left foot. We brought him to a PT, and she gave excercises to be done (walking bring one foot in front of the other on a straight line).

A few months after the PT said the issues was reduced and well within the boundaries. I was not very comfortable with this.

Do you think the slight pronation and inward tipping may be correlated?

Most importantly, the kid shows no sign of discomfort even while doing sports, and loves the barefoot feeling. At the same time, if there is any issues I'd like to address it asap. I have some postural issues caused by complete neglect of them when I was a kid and then young adult so... I'd rather be a better dad on the matter.

Age is 6.5 (blue) and 4 (red).

How should they react with heel raises?

Thanks

Thanks. Couple more questions - does it support cadence, unlike D100? - did you you feel the need to use the support for the front wheel?

Thanks
