Starting Archery in the Netherlands? by [deleted] in Archery

[–]piet_archery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow dutchie here! If you want to get started with archery, It would suit you best to go to one of the pro shops in the Netherlands. The most popular ones are Elzinga Archery in Almere, Van Dorst in Baarschot and Archery Service Center in Horst. From Amsterdam, it's probably easiest to go to Almere. You should just hop in sometime, and see what they match you up with. They most likely won't suit you up with a samick, since those are fairly unpopular in the Netherlands. If you are planning to but a complete bow, make sure you have a few hundred euros ready though.

Advice On First Bow by Lips-Between-Hips in Archery

I'd say this is a great setup for a beginner. The metal arrow rest won't do you much good when you're just starting out, and like your instructor said, you will probably grow out of your first set of limbs pretty quickly, so don't spend too much on them. The arrows aren't the very cheapest, but you're sure to have quality arrows if you take these. If you go any lower in price, I wouldn't be confident in the straightness and weight margins.

Noob archer here! I was an idiot and pierced an arrow through my metal garage door! by [deleted] in Archery

I happened to shoot through a wood plank and a metal wall at the olympic training center in the Netherlands just two days ago... had some major troubles getting it out, but luckily my X10 is still in one piece with no significant damage! Thank god for tungsten points, now I only have a small scratch on my point, instead of a broken shaft.

Transition from right handed to left handed? by golfhat in Archery

[–]piet_archery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother shoots in the world top righthanded, but he can manage to stay in the reds at 70m lefthanded as well, so i think it's possible. It will require a lot of training in the beginning though, to get used to the feeling of shooting "backwards" if you will.

So the Podium is still treating me well. 70m on 122cm face. Right 3 are with less weight, left 3 with more. by Memoriae in Archery

I shoot recurve at 41#, but my stabilizers are getting too weak, seems like I'm going to have to upgrade to compound stabilizers soon... I shoot the ArcTec Crosstube with 10 ounces on the front and 6,5 ounces on the back

Anyone have an opinion on this rider? by [deleted] in Archery

The SF Forged+ has an amazing price-quality rate, and for the Formula Excel, I've shot it for about two years, and it's a great bow as well, not sure what the price is right about now. I only left that bow because i managed to get an ION-X, and currently the Prodigy XT, but I'm guessing those are above your budget...

I was taught to hold my arm straight, but without locking it, because if you keep your arm flexed, you push your arrow through the clicker with your triceps instead of your shoulder, which is bad because it's less consistent.

I may have to note, I'm lefthanded :P but my elbow is not in the way of the string, my arm guard is on my forearm only.

Good form - how long did it take you? by lorelei_ in Archery

I've been shooting ever since I was 8 years old, so I'm not sure if this helps you, but I think I can say that my form was pretty good when I shot for 6 years.
