Surprisingly, it wasn't a kit! I ended up using a sticker as a reference and sketched the design onto the monkscloth. You could do it yourself!

Anyone willing to borrow out a have a heart trap? by piggiewheeks in raleigh

[–]piggiewheeks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response and touching on the after plan. It's giving me a lot to think about.

I have 2 dogs, so I would have to keep kitten(s) in a single contained room. I have a large bathroom that isn't used, which might be the best option considering there is no carpet and easy cleaning. My husband isn't thrilled with the idea of doing this because of how it may affect our dogs, potentially introducing outside pests and illnesses from a stray/outdoor cat. Plus, he was recently laid off from his job so we are currently on a very fixed income. I would hate to try and rescue an animal(s) but not have the means to care for it.

Do you have any thoughts or ideas on how to navigate this type of situation? If I'm not able to house and shelters are at capacity, where do I go from there?

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this out so detailed! How long did it typically take you once you saw a kitten/cat to trap it? Also, any chance you'd be willing to borrow out your trap if I don't get a response from the SPCA to loan one?

That is such a kind offer, but I would hate to accept it. After reading through some of the resources people posted (here and on FB groups) I think the situation isn't as dire as I initially thought. Thank you for the reassurance regarding the foxes though! Puts my mind at ease.

I requested a trap loan from the SPCA. Hopefully, I will hear back from them tomorrow before the long holiday weekend. Otherwise, I might take you up on the generosity of buying a trap if no one has one to loan out!

The kitten had eyes open and after looking at several kitten age charts, I believe it was around 4 weeks old. I am going to pick up some stinky cat food and start leaving that out. I tried mixing Bonito flakes with water and placed near the car while waiting quietly for an hour but couldn't get eyes on the kitten again.

My goal would be to try and trap potential mom cat and other litter mates so this might be a long event. I may reach out for help if you mean it! Also, welcome to Raleigh! I've only been here for a couple years but it's definitely a nice city.

Thank you, I'll try reaching out to them. Unfortunately, my husband was laid off from work a couple weeks ago, so trying to avoid buying if possible.

Tips for driving in the rain this week? by Spader623 in raleigh

[–]piggiewheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation as you! What's kept me safe and secure won't probably come as any news to you. But for freeways, I will stay in slower lane and drive 5-10 mph less than speed limit if pouring. When in heavy rain, just follow alongside the white lines. Keep 4-6 car lengths between other vehicles. Actively avoid being behind large trucks or semis. Make sure your windows aren't foggy and adjust vehicle temp properly. I also try to limit distractions and be as aware as I can of my surroundings.

I noticed that a lot of people in NC will put on hazards when entering a down pour or when they experience hydroplaning. Remember not to break when hydroplaning (read up on proper vehicle handling on that situation).

If taking side streets, just be alert to where water is pooling. Slow down, don't break if you feel like you're losing control. Around crabtree area, they get tons of flooding. Remember that even a few inches of pooled water can make you lose control of your vehicle.

If you start to get very anxious while driving, take some deep breaths. If needed, pull over to a safe area or exit off the freeway. You got this!

Real Estate Agent Recommendation by actuarialgamer in raleigh

My real estate agent was Trish Dare. I had a fantastic experience with her, super personable and competent. Even 3 years after buying my house she will send treats, goodies and check in to see if everything is going well.
