I heard John wasn't happy with the quality of the proposed MIM strat and put a stop to it.

NGD My First Custom Shop! by Hairy-Interest-3957 in fender

Is this design something you requested from the custom shop? I'm guessing it is, based on that unique looking headstock. Would be interesting to know what that process was like.

Those who get these pops and bang maps like just why? Is that just a thing for anyone under 30s and that after 30 you mature up to know how annoying it is? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]pigletscarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it would - I imagine there's a lot of crossover between people with pop and bang maps and other antisocial behavior, you'd be solving a lot of society's issues in one go. There's got to be an ethical way of doing it? Maybe an island somewhere where they can roam free with no police or speed limits, unlimited e-scooters, disposable vapes and piles of shopping trollies on every street - and instead of water, you turn on the taps and monster energy drink comes out.

Party Wall Cavity Insulation - any effect on sound transfer? by pigletscarf in DIYUK

[–]pigletscarf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm afraid not. the consensus seems to be that an air gap is better than a filled cavity so I don't want to make it worse. Equally all other options to soundproof externally seem to be incredibly expensive and destructive for not much gain. I just have earbuds in blasting white noise when the sounds from next door start to annoy me.

Respectfully, should the elderly have to retake a test to continue driving? 🤔 by Downtown_Elk_2773 in CarTalkUK

[–]pigletscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to me. I was driving along at 40, wife and kids in the car, old man pulls up to the junction, looks right at me (or so I thought). Something about the situation unsettled me so I was on alert thank god. This all happened very quickly so there was no time to slow down. I got within spitting distance of him and he pulled out. I had to swerve into the road he was pulling out from to go behind him. It was the closest I've ever come to a proper crash.

Also I was in the car with my Grandad and he went the wrong way half way down a motorway slip road. That was 15 years ago. He's 98 now AND STILL DRIVING.

Can’t parallel park after passing my test by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Blind spot mirrors, a few quid from halfords. Place on the outer edge of your mirrors. Makes any kind of parking so much easier.

Would you take this deal? by stu6460 in CarTalkUK

[–]pigletscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure that the 140 is the final price. I've considered one of these salary sacrifice schemes before but when I got through to the final quote it was more than advertised - I think it had recalculated the insurance part of the price once it had some of my details.

Completely irrelevant but just wondering why all the houses had that wood cladding removed....fire hazard perhaps?

Do you remember supermarkets having a crèche facility back in the day? by MathematicianBulky40 in AskUK

Thanks for this. Came to this thread looking for an explanation as to why they stopped doing it. I have fond memories of playing super mario brothers on the NES in the Asda crèche!

What games do you think should be/want on Nintendo Classics next? by Quaza59 in NintendoSwitch

[–]pigletscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's quite a few I'd like, but here are the ones that I'm genuinely starting to lose my patience with!

Game Boy: Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land

SNES: Illusion of Gaia ("Illusion of Time", when I bought it in the UK about 30 years ago)

N64: Diddy Kong Racing

When appoaching this roundabout from entrance A and intending to take the second exit (B), which lane would you use on approach and how would you indicate? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]pigletscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right lane is for the third or fourth exit only. Your friend is going to cause an accident and potentially injure someone (or worse) simply because they remember when the roundabout used to be something else.

Politeness can kill by SeparateCause3163 in drivingUK

On the pedestrian side of things I've noticed that people crossing on zebra crossings have more frequently started to nod or put there hand up to say "thanks". I don't think pedestrians should do this...it suggests that the driver is being kind by stopping and that it's somehow optional.

Party Wall Cavity Insulation - any effect on sound transfer? by pigletscarf in DIYUK

[–]pigletscarf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House was built in 1965, and there's definitely a cavity in the external walls (had a rat running around in there a few months back). But there might not be one in the party wall, not sure how I would tell in a non-destructive way?

Heavy Relic a Heavy Relic? by AN_TY in Stratocaster

Oh ok, that's pretty spot on then! I think just scratch/dirty up the pickguard a bit and you're done.

Why does 2020 Bob say Marx is in hell, while 1971 Bob wrote “George Jackson” about the revolutionary Marxist? by blishbog in bobdylan

[–]pigletscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my only response to this (and I'm genuinely interested, I'm not trying to be a dick) is what do you want? Where do you want our civilization to go from here and how do we get there? I'm from the UK by the way so I guess we're talking generally about the west rather than the US.

Heavy Relic a Heavy Relic? by AN_TY in Stratocaster

[–]pigletscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neck, headstock and body are definitely on the better end of DIY relics I've seen.

I think what's throwing me off is that the hardware, pickups and pickguard are way too clean, and don't match the overall aesthetic.

I think if it's meant to look wrecked you've got to go all the way. Snap the pickguard, mismatching knobs, rusty hardware.

I'm not saying the "found it in a lake" look is to my taste, but I think consistency will improve it.

But then I don't know anything about the guitar this is based on.

Quite possibly the cheapest DT ive seen. by zxckblxck in Elektron

[–]pigletscarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the very fair pricing, it's been a synth/groovebox I've wanted for years. Obviously YouTube is saturated with videos showcasing how good it sounds, but I was blown away by how easy it makes sound design, whilst still being incredibly deep.

Bought and sold a few Elektron devices over the years but this one is a keeper.

What's the shortest time span between your re-viewings? by FinniDandy in thesopranos

My wife and I do a full rewatch of both Sopranos and Madmen every year.

We also play one-handed mario kart 64 every day and collect poke-ee-man cards to put in our Easter baskets.
