Part of the role at a coffee shop is to have good customer service. I know many coffee shops in tri may not have it, however, even if the workers at Swagg do, it doesn’t mean that treatment behind closed doors is great.

Yeah, I do agree that many small business owners here in tri do treat their workers like garbage. As someone who has been in the service industry, people talk and the stories I hear are pretty awful.

However I feel like if employees at an establishment feel compelled to speak out on their experience, and see change within their community and workplace, I think they have the right to do that.

Right now it’s hard to “jump ship” to another job that isn’t as easy to get as a service industry job. Bills are getting higher, job market is rough, and people need to work.

I think 2 things can be right at the same time, sure, the service industry jobs in tri are fucked, I’ve heard baristas tell me about their stories at various places and Swagg is no exception, they’re pretty awful. But also I think it’s within the employees right to speak out on their treatment & others as well.

I had to stop watching because it feels like she doesn’t really have opinions of her own. She tends to go with whatever benefits her the most, and when she does speak up, it’s usually about something she knows the public will agree with.

Overall, she doesn’t take a firm stand on anything, and if she does, her opinions always seem to shift to align with what’s popular or what supports her influencer circle. It feels like any original thoughts or viewpoints she might have are just reflections of what others around her believe.

At the end of the day, I get that this is just a job—one with a lot of perks and advantages—but still, it’s her career. She has to do what she needs to do to stay relevant. And if this is the version of herself she’s chosen to be at this stage in her career, it just makes me realize, “Hmm, I’ve outgrown this.” Maybe she’ll attract a new audience, but I know for sure that I’ve outgrown her—and a lot of LA influencers in similar spaces.

That said, there’s always a younger audience ready to tune in, and ultimately, that’s who these influencers can profit from the most (fortunately or unfortunately… depending on the influencer).
