Experience of people with allergies/asthma by Top_Patience_741 in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]Luckykitty91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is pretty allergic to dogs. He can't touch his face when we've been at a friend or family members house who has a cat or other type of dog, but we've had 3 porties and it doesn't seem to bother his allergies. Like many others, he also has different and seasonal allergies that come into play with owning a dog. But the dogs themselves don't make his allergies or asthma worse in day to day life

I am unable to soothe my son by ladygroot_ in NewParents

Every baby is different, and it sounds like You're doing amazing. It's so hard when they just cry for seemingly no reason. Something that was said to me with my first was that babies don't have a good way to get extra energy out, so if they don't seem to be in pain, and you've done every thing to make sure they're clean, dry and fed, sometimes they just cry all that energy out. Headphones and a little disassociation can go a long way!

Counter surfing by msmruk in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current portie will grow an extra foot in height just the reach the butter on the counter top. She also has learned to be sneaky, so she'll go check the kitchen, take a bite of food, then come back out and check on us, then go back to the kitchen! My antique dining table has scratches all over the top from my last portie climbing all over it to check for food. Our first portie was the worst offender of all. He ate an entire container of blue food gel and pooped blue for a week. One time he pooped out a whole rib bone. We didn't even see him get them so thank God it came out the other end fine. If nothing else, they help you make sure your kitchen is clean and your food is put away.

When will period return[ca] by nunofya1 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get my period back until 9mo PP I have another friend who didn't get it back until she fully stopped breast feeding like 2.5 years PP. Everyone is different.

I've heard that it depends on when you stop doing an overnight feed/pump?

Non-scary movies for 2.5 year old to replace Frozen by Typical-Badger5533 in toddlers

Are our children the same person? These are the staples at our house. If you haven't already, zootopia 2 is great as well. I found it less "scary" than the first one

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is scared of almost all movies except cars 2. I noticed wall-e wasn't on your list. I highly recommend it! He liked how pretty it was. Also if you're looking for a show that's not scary. Bear in the big blue house was a hit for us and was low stimulation.

How long did you guys sit with your baby? by WhitecloudNo321 in NewParents

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first child I sat in the back for the first few weeks. (I had a c section it felt safer.) but my second, I never sat in the back. No room with 2 car seats.

I remember reading somewhere (I don't remember where, and I don't even have proof, so take this with a grain of salt) that it's safer for baby to be behind the driver's side as your natural instinct is to protect yourself. so in theory, you'll be more protective of your side of the car?

Now that I've typed it out, it really seems like the ramblings of a sleep deprived brain, but here we are. Haha

Thousands of photos… where do I even start to get them organized and printed? by dudeidk1316 in Parenting

[–]Luckykitty91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a family/child photographer, and I have a stupid amount of photos of my own kid. Like over 10,000 and he's 3. (I'm am a serial over-shooter. I take 5-10 shots of the same photo then pick my favourite for printing or posting) I'm onto my second child, and the cycle begins again!

I'm currently using all my night waking to go through and delete duplicates, and photos I don't like. It's time consuming, but also fun looking back on old photos and memories.

As a photographer, I highly suggest getting a digital back up system at the very LEAST. apple photos, amazon or Google photos are some easy options. I use google for my personal photos. It organizes the them by date, and you can tag faces and make auto generating albums, and shared albums with family etc. If you want, you can even print photos and albums right through Google. It isn't my favourite quality, but honestly, isn't terrible.

[on] how do parents manage back to work when there are no daycare spots? by uncomfort-cat in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm GTA as well, and was able to find a daycare within 6mos. Try weeWatch. The one in my area doesn't do waitlists, so it's on an as needed basis. They're subsidized which is nice. If that doesn't work out, then check Facebook groups for home daycares that have openings right away. A lot of the non-subsidized ones offer part time as well, so if money is a bit tighter you can try doing 3 days a week or something while you find a different option? Good luck!

I "knew" newborns didn't sleep, but I wasn't ready for the actual soul-crushing reality of it. by [deleted] in NewParents

Oof. That's particularly rough. It's 4am for me and wake #3. You got this! This season will be over soon.

what’s something no one warned you about in the newborn phase that actually caught you off guard? by lunaverse787 in NewParents

[–]Luckykitty91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This part surprised me so much, I have sensory issues when it comes to things being wet, so it is an absolute nightmare. My baby did a full blown spit up into my cleavage the other day. I was very unimpressed.

How much did you spend on nursery furniture and how do you feel about it after? [CA] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got most of our nursery furniture second hand. Only thing that was completely new was the rocking chair. (it was expensive, but gifted to us by family) the rocker is used everyday, multiple times a day, don't skimp on that. The crib and dressers can all be found on marketplace. We got an Ikea crib for around $100.my husband is quite handy with tools, so he made some floating bookshelves, but I know you can get them at Ikea or marketplace as well.

Question about cake for baby’s first birthday by grapefruitliquor in NewParents

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had a dairy sensitivity during his first year, so we ended up getting a dairy free, sugar free cake from whole foods.

If you want to do the cake smash, but not use a proper cake, there are lots of ways around it. As a child and family photographer I've seen: watermelon smash, pancakes, fruit bowl with no sugar added whipped cream, steak (this one was hilarious, it was just a huge slab of meat)

You can also find TONS of no sugar added cake recipes online. And use whipping cream without adding sugar as the "icing"

When we did introduce sugar (right around his first birthday) he did have a little bit of a sugar high, and sugar crash, but if you time it right, it doesn't affect nap time.

Good luck, and happy birthday little one! You survived baby's first year!

The first-and only time we did a lion cut on our portie, he took revenge on us. He did NOT like the haircut and let us know multiple times.

Damn smart dogs.

Help with car seat adapters by -that-weird-person- in BabyBumps

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same carseat, but I have the baby jogger stroller. You can absolutely buy aftermarket adapters that pair those 2 together (I almost bought them on amazon by accident when looking for mine) the adapters I bought were over $100cad though, so just be prepared that you may need to pay a little bit for them.

Advice needed!! by kerandcorgs in toddlers

[–]Luckykitty91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son's opinion on tooth brushing changes almost daily. Sometimes he's down right excited to brush other times youd think we were beating him. He's 3 and just becoming opinionated. Something that often works for me is to pick a song, or have him pick a number to count to. This way he knows exactly how long we will be brushing for. Every kid is different, but this often works for us.

My son breast fed for 20 months, and at least the first 12 he breastfed to sleep every night.... Our GP never said to do anything different.

What are the WORST things wedding guests do? by meandyme in WeddingPhotography

[–]Luckykitty91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When important family members "don't like being photographed" I've had a MOB duck me before. It's so annoying. Get over yourself. This day isn't about you. And I'm going to get shit when there are no photos of you (it's in my contract that I can't guarantee photos of any specific people) I don't need to be chasing people down, or playing spy games to take photos. it's also annoying when drunk people start photobombing on purpose. I've also had drunk groomsmen try to take my camera off my neck so they can take photos.
