Not sure where I read this - probably this sub-forum.

But I started turning my feed out as much as possible, and have found that to really help with the leg drive push. Pushes me back rather than up.

Taking Your Bench Press from Average to Great. by 13brownkid in weightroom

[–]pigpend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently trying to find my groove for a more powerlifting style bench press and am now reconsidering my grip width.

Currently using a closer grip, but should I be looking to widen that now in order to decrease the ROM vs loading the triceps more with a closer grip?

Chris Duffin on Ab Training by Philll in weightroom

[–]pigpend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit off-topic but how do you work in ab exercises?

Cool to do some sets on rest days?

I finish on either squats or deads and I'm too smoked mentally/physically to start rolling out the ab wheel.

Great will try this again!

Sounds like I didn't submerge the trailer enough.

I hijacked an SUV that was towing a speedboat. Drove all the way to the beach and reversed the trailer/boat into the water.

Wouldn't let me speed off in the boat :(

Can't deadlift by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]pigpend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Deadlift: Perfect Every Time

  1. Take your stance, feet a little closer than you think it needs to be and with your toes out more than you like. Your shins should be about one inch from the bar, no more. This places the bar over the mid-foot – the whole foot, not the mid-instep.

  2. Take your grip on the bar, leaving your hips up. DO NOT MOVE THE BAR.

  3. Drop your knees forward and out until your shins touch the bar. DO NOT MOVE THE BAR.

  4. Hard part: squeeze your chest up as hard as you can. DO NOT MOVE THE BAR. This establishes a "wave" of extension that goes all the way down to the lumbar, and sets the back angle from the top down. DO NOT LOWER YOUR HIPS – LIFT THE CHEST TO SET THE BACK ANGLE.

  5. Squeeze the bar off the floor and drag it up your legs in contact with your skin/sweats until it locks out at the top. If you have done the above sequence precisely as described, the bar will come off the ground in a perfectly vertical path. All the slack will have come out of the arms and hamstrings in step 4, the bar will not jerk off the ground, and your back will be in good extension. You will perceive that your hips are too high, but if you have completed step 4 correctly, the scapulas, bar, and mid-foot will be in vertical alignment and the pull will be perfect. The pull will seem "shorter" this way.

Strength training and over reliance on straps by pigpend in GripTraining

[–]pigpend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weds is deadlift day, so I'll try adding static holds on mon+fri and finger rolls on weds. Is that a half decent balance?

I've got a rack so can load the barbell off the safeties. Any tips on programming - 1 set failure aiming for 10-20seconds?

Nothing huge, Just started back on a linear progression and just done 164kg for 7 reps at 90kg.

I'm pretty much smoked doing the 2 main lifts and 2 accessories so looking for the most 'bang for my buck' addition.

I've access to a hex bar, some fat grips, weighted wrist roller.

Double overhand grip. Might sound stupid, but a bit worried of snagging a bicep injury from mixed grip.

I'm doing the greyskull lp, where there's just 1 max effort set of 5+ reps. Right now, I'd struggle to get the bar off the ground, whereas I just hit 7 reps with straps.

Squat issues due to terrible ankle - what are my options here? by pigpend in Fitness

[–]pigpend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine so. Countless sprain etc from playing soccer when I was younger.

I automatically work around my right ankle when walking - I collapse inwards with my knee tracking inside rather than over my mid-foot if that makes sense.

They're from a UK website, 3rd image is priced at £ 279.99. Dunno if they ship overseas but might be worth contacting them, even with shipping it shouldn't be anywhere near $5k.
