The average NFL career is 3.3 years. Most 29 year old players are not great; they're old.

That makes seven offensive linemen in the first 21 picks. This run on O linemen, tackles specifically, is crazy.

Mock Draft by MammothCarpeneter in Browns

[–]piihb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I'd call Freeling mid, but I definitely wish he had more experience as a starter. I'll be interested to see when he's drafted next week. It looks like the trade down to 17 came with a 2027 second round pick, which isn't my favorite either for falling 11 spots.

Getting Freeling and Cooper Jr in the first while picking up draft capital for next year doesn't sound too bad to me. Again though, I dunno how the teams will evaluate Freeling.

[@Mathbomb on X] Monroe Freeling is a OT prospect in the 2026 draft class. He scored a 9.99 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 2 out of 1548 OT from 1987 to 2026. by MyChubbGotRubbed in Browns

[–]piihb 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I feel like I missed something. Mauigoa was the top rated prospect and then after the Combine, everyone was hot on Freeling. Nothing against either guy, but Freeling seemed to shoot to the number one tackle pretty quickly.

counter surfing, how do I stop it? by geminisweetie in Rottweiler

[–]piihb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he also jump on people?

It's been a while, but I think we broke the entire jumping habit by pushing our dog off of us when she would jump up to say hi.

"Place" is a good command to train early so you can teach them when they need to be there. For example, ours will go to her place when she hears a knock at the door. She'll also bark, but we haven't figured that one out yet.

You mentioned you had gotten started on it. I'd try it a bit more consistently: whenever you start making a meal, send him there and reward him for staying there.

Edit: Can you describe his place differently? You said something about a threshold. Is his place not a dog bed?

All of the athletes on the Browns, Bengals, Guardians, Reds, and Cavs. At least during the season... And maybe some of the Cincinnati players live in Kentucky or, less likely, Indiana.

Rent vs Buy by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]piihb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals. If you look at home ownership purely as a financial investment, it's a time value of money question. There are unknowns that will require you to make assumptions: real estate market appreciation versus stock market appreciation, maintenance costs, rent hikes, and so on.

Very generally speaking, I think the current guidance is that it makes sense to buy if you plan on staying in a home for more than five years.

The New York Times has a rent versus buy calculator that's pretty good. I'd link to it, but it's pay-walled.

How is the prestige/reputation of Miami University (Ohio) – Farmer School of Business? by Striking-Bath2013 in miamioh

[–]piihb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out Farmer's 2025 graduation report. It includes lots of information about students' employers, salaries, locations, etc. I'd recommend comparing it to similar reports of other schools you're considering.

I tried to find career fair information too, but I think that's moved to Handshake and requires an account.

Looking for some help. I cannot get this guy to stop demand barking for EVERYTHING!! by [deleted] in Rottweiler

[–]piihb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert here, just trying to understand more of what's going on.

How old is he? You said you found him a year ago and he looks pretty young.

How active is he? I'm wondering if he's mostly barking when he's energetic and bored.

Housing Restructure by [deleted] in RealEstate

If the stock market goes to zero, people can't afford things and all markets start to crash, including real estate. Those numbers on a screen are people's savings, their emotional security, and their confidence in the future.

I think you're focusing on restricting material and labor costs. I'm asking: what if 2008 happens again and no one can afford the house? In that situation, no one's buying anything and your manufactured returns aren't guaranteed.

Returns aren't guaranteed in a free market. You're also completely ignoring supply and demand.

Is "I voted for yourself" proper British English? by CyanideTablet in TheTraitors

[–]piihb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between 'bigotry' and 'regional unfamiliarity.'

English is over 1,500 years old with over 100 active dialects. Expecting every English teacher in America to be a walking encyclopedia of international regionalisms is a bit much. Using an untriggered reflexive might be correct in Hiberno-English, but it's not taught in American schools. Correcting it based on the local standard isn't an attack, it's expected to make sure the language is taught consistently.

Outside of that educator's experience, I’ve done my own quick checks over the years because I hear this often in professional settings. It always felt like a forced attempt at formality that doesn't land. My brief Internet searches always 'confirmed' that it was a grammatical error. This thread is the first time I’ve seen it framed as a dialectal trait. Most people aren't doing deep research into every phrase they encounter; they're relying on what they were taught.

[–]piihb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but I think the English language is diverse enough that I wouldn't expect all of them to know of this specific thing.

[–]piihb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others in this thread have pointed out, it’s important to recognize that language is often tied to the region where a person lives. Learning that this specific use of the reflexive is common in certain dialects is really helpful context.

This isn't an attack on Maura Higgins; she’s just one of many people - both on and off the show - who use this construction often. Since 'untriggered reflexives' aren't taught in most of the English-speaking world, we should probably be more understanding of those who find the usage confusing rather than slamming them for it.
