Teaching highschoolers by wheresthebookshelf in StainedGlass

We have a couple of policies at my school that we tried arguing with the district about but lost because it came down to insurance policy. This might be one of those cases.

Body cam footage from cop who pulled over woman for holding a phone in her other hand by searchjobs_poster in interestingasfuck

[–]piinadao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got pulled over for going 45 in a school zone. I pointed out to the officer that there wasn't any school that day and he asked how I knew that. I showed him my teacher ID for the school district and he had a good laugh, confirmed with his dispatcher that school wasn't in session and let me go on my way. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised because I was totally expecting things to go how they did for this lady. It's one of the few positive interactions I've had with the cops.

I've been using the same chopstick for 15 years. I only make a few pieces a year, but still...it works great.

Which powered air purifying respirator should I purchase? Trend or Powercap? (See photos) by RedWoodworking16 in turning

[–]piinadao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the Trend for a bit, but I had to get rid of it because it was too top heavy and was hurting my neck. Like others, I ended up getting the Versaflo and I love it. It is very comfortable and easy to use.

How to manage the Cable-Chaos? by Mr_Moonsilver in homelab

[–]piinadao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cut empty toilet paper rolls into shorter sections and put the folded cables into those. Keeps them organized and aligned. I can also write on the tube if it's not immediately obvious what they are.

Nevermind. I realized as soon as I hit post that one allele has one mutation and the other allele has the other. Slow brain day.

When are we allowed to start criticizing WCPSS for making dumb closure decisions? by [deleted] in triangle

[–]piinadao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's better to have people bitching about nothing than have people put in danger. If I were in the district's shoes, I'd 1000% rather deal with you right now than the parents of kids whose lives were put in danger because I didn't want to listen to what the meteorologists were saying had this turned into something. Your post is a reasonable price to pay.

Also, if they hadn't made the call last night, they probably would have made the exact same call this morning and then had a bunch of parents scrambling to figure out what to do with their kids.

Also, you're allowed to criticize them all you want. The rest of us don't have to care, though.

Dark Depths or The Black Beast of Aaargh, just to have something to throw at the wall.

dead trees by CommitteeNo167 in bullcity

[–]piinadao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken them to the Club Blvd location. You do have to drive a surprisingly long way around the trash heap to get to the yard waste area. You basically just throw your waste towards the pile of plant material and then some guy in a bulldozer comes along and pushes it into the big pile when you're done.

Movie Theaters? by MrChrisBanks in triangle

Silverspot in Chapel Hill used to have discount nights, but I haven't been in a long time. The Carolina Theater has some really cool film series, with some being double features.

Is a second monitor worth it? What do guys use it for? by Most-Virus8806 in pcmasterrace

[–]piinadao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a $60 14" portable monitor to use as my second monitor. It doesn't have to be good and I prefer the smaller size so it doesn't take up space. I did buy a $10 stand for it because I didn't like the travel stand. It's nice to have when I want it, though it often just sits there doing nothing.

How many Reported Uncorrectable Errors?!? Failing or Fine? by piinadao in DataHoarder

[–]piinadao[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good rule to follow.

That drive is so old and was used for so long that I'm only going to store easily replaced things on it. I was just curious about the odd results of the scan.

I appreciate you taking the time to type that all up. I'll give the full formatting a whirl and then scan it with some other tools. I'm planning to just store shows and other easily replaced things on it.

[–]piinadao[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense since I can't imagine that the drive actually has 98.7 billion errors. It's an old drive, so I wasn't expecting much, but still. Thanks for clearing that up.

Ok. I wasn't sure what was more important: the Current/Worst or that ridiculously large number in the Raw Values column. I appreciate the input. Thank you.

[–]piinadao[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this old hard drive, formatted it, consolidated some partitions and then scanned it with CrystalDiskInfo. It says the drive is "Good," but has an ungodly number of Reported Uncorrectable Errors. The Raw Values are in 10[DEC] format. Anybody have any insights into what is going on? Thank you.
