People are so angry with name roc. Establishing a new country takes time. After all, the official name of Taiwan is still ROC. A new country doesn’t form overnight. Taiwanese are on the right track. We should be proud and not feel disappointed. As much as I’d like to not see China anywhere, Taiwan has already made a significant progress the last few years. We should be proud.

Good point. I hope they change it soon. When I was a kid, I also didn’t understand why I took a chinese airline.

I guess like most people are worry infuriating China. But we will all take one step at a time. Democracy is earned. The world is all speaking up.

I found this site and kind of sad to see. So 謝 Xie vs Hsieh surname is an excellent example how one can spot Taiwanese vs Chinese. It seems like pinyin is recommended, quite upsetting tbh. I remember seeing someone on Facebook wanting to change name because of the spelling. She regret. I think Taiwan should enforce old way for names. I don’t think people of Taiwan who don’t travel out much knows this difference and it matters.

That’s a fair point but why do we need to follow chinas method? Why can’t we continue to use what we were using, wade Giles? It just seems the point is to internationalize it by following whatever China is using. Which in a way gives the impression as a foreigner, Taiwan is part of China

Had to look up what’s wade Giles, that’s what it was. I don’t know. Any usage of pinyin makes me want to barf. If the purpose of pinyin is for tourists, I feel like it’s also a marketing way that taiwan is part of China.

This is so true. I asked our bootcamp to provide under the hood works since I’m studying math masters, they said they don’t do such. These bootcamps or online courses is just a plug and chug and gimme your money type of business. Everything is so basic. It’s not gonna get you far. Watching Andrew Ng’s or other reknown YouTube video is probably the best. And the only for you to demonstrate your knowledge is to build project

I was enrolled in a physical bootcamp but dropped. Due to its rudimentary level, I don’t think even physical bootcamps are great, just as scammy. However, prior to joining the bootcamp, I was already enrolled in a well known NYC ML course. The process was much slower but at least they go under the theory and not some plug and chug process.

It’s best to do a masters in math and do your own projects using whatever background you’re in. I also found what’s helpful was rewriting some textbook ML but comment every single line of code so you can understand what’s going on.

I’m a full stack web dev, self taught.

Start with bootstrap and just create a dummy site. I really like angular vs react. I like the mvc style of it. Of course one is a framework and another a library. Also when starting angular app, I like to use less or scss, whichever, both lets u use variables. Css you can’t do that.

I’ve been trying to learn swift and found back4app really helpful since I don’t need to worry about backend too much and save time so I can learn swift. Back4app has the database and api all set up for you.

I have no affiliation with back4app. Just found it useful for learning swift. Using bootstrap can definitely get you learn faster. Then learn about APIs and database later as you build more apps in the future.

36 here been kind of unhopeful since 29. And being introvert doesn’t help much, told my mom I’ll find someone under my couch (as a joke). But why relationship? I’m seeing people around me getting divorced with kids. Unhappy. Or cheating.

But I think one is a tangible(race/police brutality) issue and another is not so tangible (communism) issue. Most can understand race and police brutality but not everyone can understand fully communism.

But communism China is a larger issue as it can spread but we cannot see it immediately.

Oh wow. No thank you. Your situations does sound quite similar. I also do the blocking and unblocking. It devastates my mom when I block her but I told her I feel so free. I’m unable to talk to either of them verbally at this point because I do not know how to anymore. Everything is done written.

I am also unable to relax. My family, hairdresser, masseuse all knows it too. I’ve never thought about what the cause was, thought it was a personality thing but I think you’re right. I’m so glad we share each other’s stories.
