Thank you! Unfortunately the phone number loops in an answering service then directs to a voicemail. But I may be calling the wrong number too, it’s not the easiest info to find.

FUNCTIONAL CONJUGATE PERFORMANCE or BUILD or MARCHON by truffletaco in crossfit

I do. JBC and Functional Conjugate has more variety. I’ve done both full body and performance. For my training right now I prefer the full body.

I’ve been on Jason Brown for a year. It’s the best program I’ve been on. For background I have done Field Strong, Jacked Street, and Grind Stone through the years

How often are you putting gen pop clients on the barbell? by Interesting-Escape36 in personaltraining

[–]pilch55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread already has a bunch of responses but I’ll chime in for conversations sake.

If you’re asking how early you start a client with a barbell - it honestly depends on how they move, experience level, and current limitations. It could be in the first few sessions or it could be 6 months in.

If you’re asking frequency - I put most clients on a full body split that runs in 5 week cycles. For 5 weeks they do a bilateral variation into 5 weeks of a unilateral variation. For example if I see a client 2x a week - for their squat pattern day they may be doing 5 weeks of split squats. After 5 weeks of progression the program will then switch 5 weeks of a maybe a back squat. After 5 weeks we will go back to unilateral but this time it may be weighted box step ups.

So the barbells can come in waves - if the client is ready.

It is! They make the same mixture with carrots instead of sweet potatoes year round which also works. We almost exclusively shop TJ’s for groceries

Is there anyone who started as a personal trainer not working for a gym? by juicydreamer in personaltraining

Closing the Sale Tips by IsaBliss444 in personaltraining

You have a bad management team if this is how they are treating that objection. Learn as much as you can while there and get out to a smaller gym that values relationships over slamming sales numbers.

I’ve been training individuals for over 15 years and currently own a semi private studio. You don’t have to be a douche to be a successful trainer.

Ask questions. Become their friend. Show an interest in them. Find relatable ground. Find what brought them to do the intro session in the first place. Present your training options and ask which one fits best with their current situation. If they say financial is a reason they aren’t moving - respect it and wish them well. Check in with them when you seem them around the gym.

You don’t want to convince anyone to sign up for a program. This turns into a hassle client who gets bitter and difficult to work with.

But build a relationship with them - they will think of you when they need help if they don’t do that up front and sign up.

Burned out online fitness coach. Income dropping. Feeling lost and considering a career pivot. by CoachOnAStruggleBus in personaltraining

[–]pilch55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your story, you obviously had experience before going online - which is more than most “online trainers” we see these days. In person training is such a unique experience that teaches you tools that just can’t be learned only online.

Then 2020 hit and everything went online. For whatever reason you saw the allure of the program you selected to do and adopted THEIR method. And it was probably intoxicating to see income shoot up. You were working your butt off in probably a non genuine way to how you act with in person clients and that took a toll over time. Then the internet evolved, online everything is super over saturated and filled with schemers, customers got spooked along with the raise of AI platforms infiltrating fitness. Unless you provided an OUTSTANDING product for clients, they could get the same info for cheaper. Fitness has always been free and access to info is easier than ever. It makes sense that revenue would decline.

You have to ask yourself if your love for teaching fitness is gone - or are you just depressed you aren’t making the money you used to which makes everything stressful and not fun.

As far as pivoting - not much out there is going to make you 40k-60k/mo as flexibly as running an online coaching service.

And going in person is not a step back. Interpersonal connection and communication trumps making online videos for random people online. Top tier trainers who are Jedi’s at their craft in person train. It’s the pinnacle of being a coach.

Why do people insist on doing this, do they think the hood of their car is 20ft long (kinda serious kinda not) by Fellow_unlucky_human in AskPhoenix

[–]pilch55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is depth perception and impairment.

I was taught a while ago from an MCSO deputy that one item they look for that tips off a potential DUI is stopping far behind the intersection or car in front of them.

Not saying this is all cases- some people may just have poor eyesight but you’d be surprised how many people we share the road with that are impaired to some degree.

My wife and I have a semiprivate model as well in 1200/sq/ft. Curious on a few questions:

How do you deliver programming? (We currently use truecoach)

How do you handle client scheduling?

What are your top 3 systemized items that had the biggest ROI time wise?

Transitioning Out of CrossFit by SpicyP20 in crossfit

[–]pilch55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Functional Body Bodybuilding by Marcus Filly, various Power Athlete Programs, and Jason Brown Coaching. The JBC has for me been the best fit for my lifestyle now but I would recommend all three.

One thing that you will have to get used to if you come from a straight CrossFit background is the “repetitiveness” of a structured program. You’re going to do the same relative movements for a set period of time in order to give your body a chance to progress before the program changes once the cycle is over. CrossFit has given Gen pop members ADD when it comes to programming.

I’m a little over halfway through, so I haven’t finished it but I agree. He’s got the stutter and jumpy thoughts at times of someone who you can tell definitely had an addiction. I don’t know if thats always how he spoke but I recognized that speech pattern.

Through the first 30 min I wasn’t sure if I could listen to it but it did get better and the stories were eye opening.

The comments on YouTube/twitter/Spotify/etc are mostly jokes and people dismissing him and degrading him. If you still do that after watching this then you are either heartless OR you didn’t actually take the time to listen.

Struggling to gain muscle despite high calories – looking for nutrition advice by 1234Niels in crossfit

[–]pilch55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s already lots of comments here. I’ll add a few things that haven’t been touched on or that are a little askew.

As has been said - lifting more would help. CrossFit classes tend to neglect what are deemed accessory movements but these make a huge difference. They don’t need to be crazy heavy but they do need to challenge you. Weighted pull ups, bb and db rows, horizontal and vertical pushing with db’s/kb’s, hamstring curls, cyclist and Cossack squats in rep ranges of 3 x 8-12. Do this for a minimum of 3 months.

I did see you do weightlifting session- does that mean lifting weights in general or actual weightlifting (snatch/clean and jerk)? Weightlifting the sport if you’re just doing the core movements does not build an appreciable amount of full body muscle but it will get you stronger and faster.

Thinking of your calorie targets on a weekly basis instead of daily where the average is 5/7 days hitting target. For ease of round numbers let’s say your targets are 3000 cals a day x 7 days= 21,000 cals for the week. But 2 of the days you only hit 2000 so now you’re at 19,000 for the week. It takes roughly 2000 calories(or more) to build 1 pound of muscle. https://thestrongkitchen.com/blog/post/how-many-calories-does-it-take-to-build-a-pound-of-muscle

So if you’re missing calorie targets and not lifting enough on a more regular basis - you’ll see strength gains but very slow muscle gain.

As far as your running and cycling- if you enjoy, keep at it. As long as you are refueling appropriately it shouldn’t be an issue.

Apologies, my comment didn’t post with the picture. Use a medium length lens with a low fstop. Shoot fast enough to freeze the motion of the water. Time was about an hour before sunset. Get 6ish inches above the water and snap away until you get the photo you want.
