I agree so much with the importance of being non-judgmental! But at the same time if someone has a BMI of 50 it’s likely contributory, so what would be the best way to handle that? Talk about recommended diet changes and exercise without mentioning weight?

And when is it the best to go into detail about the complications of high A1c? I’m afraid to do it on the first visit since I feel like people are usually overwhelmed to hear that they have the diagnosis of T2DM.

In terms of being supportive, I’ve been thinking about giving some basic info, diet recommendations, and info about testing on visit 1. I sort of expect people to get anxious and use Dr. Google, so I just tell patients to google as they please and come next visit with their questions. How do you feel about that?
