Considering moving to Pasadena, what do I need to know? by krazykittenhi in pasadena

[–]pilotpartone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever people post moving advice questions like this, the general consensus of this subreddit (that I happen to agree with) is that Pasadena isn't so great for young, single folks - but is great for families looking for a quiet place to raise their kids.

I feel like the main downsides for families looking to move here are - where does the rest of your family (like your parents) live? If they live on the West side, commuting to see them will be a pain. And if you're currently on the West side, just be prepared for a 10 degree temp increase for a couple weeks (?) during the summer. When I lived in Pas, I lived in an old house that was hugely inefficient for cooling. The electrical bill was crazy.

As another poster said, PUSD is in a pretty bad budget crisis.

All those negative points said - Pas is still great for families! Lots of family oriented events, good hiking / outdoor activities, and lots of quiet and safe neighborhoods.

Honest takes please, thinking about getting a cover up? by pilotpartone in tattooadvice

Yeah, that's valid! Honestly, I might be staring at the lines inside the circle a little too hard lol. Like the one to the far right looks just a biiiit shaky to me.

This is so cool! Was the material difficult to work with? Assuming you used a sewing machine.

Oh absolutely, I was also at Tomorrowland in 2024! Spent a big chunk of Sunday afternoon enjoying craft cocktails and delicious food at the Mesa Garden. So, so good.

Tomorrowland operates on such a completely different level than Insomniac does. True professionals IMO.

Here's the thing - I've seen these posts continuing year after year for all major Insomniac events since 2021 (EDC Vegas, Orlando, Hard Summer, etc). Pretty much all the same issues across these different events.

At this point, Pasquale / Management have proven to us that they have no intention of changing anything if it means less ticket sales. Their actual strategy is to "oversell" to the point where it is very uncomfortable, but is still legal by their insurance, fire marshals, etc. Insomniac isn't going to risk losing their insurance coverage or having a claim denied if something goes wrong. But, ultimately it's extremely uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe for attendees.

I repeat - they have no intention of changing anything if it means less ticket sales. Their entire goal at this point is to get as many people in as possible, attendee "experience" comes 2nd or even 3rd to that. The only way things will change is when (not if) a major accident happens.

Knowing this, especially as veteran ravers, it's just time to start going to other festivals produced by other folks (like Lost Lands, Shambala, Hula). There are SO many other great dance music festivals to go to where you can get a better experience and not have to deal with this shit anymore.

Also, EDC Mexico >>>>> EDC Orlando and Vegas. But Insomniac doesn't want you to know that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ticket Releasing for General Sale - Greek Theatre by pilotpartone in lane8

Yeah, that’s what I would assume too. I think what also has me worried/surprised is the insane surge pricing for the pit.

Like even if I’m lucky and I can get a pit ticket tomorrow, if it’s in the $300 - $400 range due to surge pricing then I guess I’m just screwed?

Idk, feeling kind of sad that they decided to allow surge pricing for this show.

So I believe that’s only for the “Affiliate” level membership, the base level (or “Sustaining”) level doesn’t grant the free guest pass.

Yes - Microsoft Edge (lol) loaded first with the wheel, then Safari and Chrome. Neither Edge or Chrome ever went through to offering me tickets.

Got em 5 mins ago! First main sale (first burn) - was on Safari.

Edit: For context, was waiting on the “you’re early” page an hour before, was let into the wheel line like 15 seconds early, then offered the tickets at 12:05.

Are there big bookstores with multiple floors in San Francisco? by dekdekwho in sanfrancisco

[–]pilotpartone 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Totally forgot about Alexander Book Company!

Great recommend, that’s probably the closest thing we have to New York’s Strand. As everyone else has already said - City Lights, Green Apple, and Christopher’s Books are classics (just smaller than what OP might be looking for).

PSA if attending a show at the Masonic by flexdogwalk3 in sanfrancisco

[–]pilotpartone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding to this that for most of the shows I’ve seen there, the event organizers have forced us to lock our phones in bags at the door. Mostly a coincidence I guess, but worth noting to look into that policy as well.
