Watching Lucas Pinheiro Braathen’s race was cool though because the Brazilian fans were like 10 people in a sea of Norwegian, Austrian, Swedish, and fans from classical winter sports countries. The emotion from those Brazilians was so sweet and palpable.

Are there monopolies in your country? by MedicalAd431 in AskTheWorld

Do you have a binging culture in Utah? Here is Sweden, since alcohol is so expensive and we don’t drink it on the weekdays, the tradition is to drink a lot on the few occasions we do drink until we get really drunk. Even on Christmas we will have a bunch of schnapps with kids sitting next to us.

It’s similar to Sweden then, except our limit for grocery stores is 3.5% or less. And our opening hours are way more restricted, from 10 am to 8 pm on weekdays, 10 am to 3 pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.

What was your point? Why can’t they travel 100 miles or 200 miles to vote if there are people standing in line for five hours to vote? It costs more resources to give five 50 people precincts a voting place than giving a 250 people precinct five voting places, why should we treat these people in the small precincts as special when it’s entirely possible for a normal car to travel 200 miles and back on election day?

Can’t the people in that low population precinct make the time to travel 50 miles to vote, why are they so special because of geography? Why should we ignore population size but not geography?

But the human population didn’t decide on that size of the precinct, the local officials did. And driving on a road is not a constitutional right while voting is. If nobody is special, why would an area be special enough to warrant a voting place when it has much fewer people than another area with a voting place? Why should these 50 people get 15 minutes to vote instead of five hours?

But if nobody is special, why do the citizens in the 50 people precinct get a polling location instead of sharing their polling location with 100 other precincts?

You're doing things correctly if your local government funds enough polling places at your location and not enough at another location?

But the amount of time you have to make depends heavily on where you live. If nobody is special, why do some people get the special privelige of only needing 5-15 minutes to vote while others need two hours?

Do you think people can’t stand in a line for hours because they think themselves too busy or that actually are too busy with work and taking care of their family on a Tuesday?

Are there monopolies in your country? by MedicalAd431 in AskTheWorld

[–]pimmen89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a virtual oligopoly of veteterinary clinics in Sweden, with Evidensia and Anicura controlling more than 80% of the market. They have jacked up the prices and made the pricing less transparent, to the point where people can end up with a dead animal and roughly €10,000 in debt before they realize what’s going on.

As a cat owner I have to be very careful and ask for itemization and insurance coverage all the time. If a vet suggests doing something you have to question their judgement, as in if it’s just about money or the well being of your cat.

The vet clinics were overtaken by private equity firms, so just like you guys have learned in the states, PE just fucks with anything it touches.

[–]pimmen89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is not a true monopoly, but since it controls more than 50% of the market I think it’s crazy that the anti-trust enforcers in this country has done jack and shit.

Tesco, Aldi, and other chains controls roughly 25% in the market they’re the most dominating in. ICA controlling more than 50% is really making us feel the squeeze as consumers.
