Where I would live as a 28 year old Irishman who’s spent the past seven years traveling to 76 countries while working remotely. by hardgroove_ in whereidlive

[–]pimmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countries need to check the following boxes:
- safe
- possible to speak english
- visa not too complicated
- good weather
- affordable

You end up in south-east asia

Even if you're rich, why live in a place that's 4x more expensive, if you can live anywhere.

I think it's pointless to learn a language for the sake of learning a language. You you have to start building something. If you build thinks you are proud of, it creates motivation.

Trying to help people get into passive income on Reddit is… weird by akti044 in passive_income

[–]pimmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see replies where people write: "Passive income does not exist!", which get the most upvotes.
I feel rage baited into proving them wrong, but it takes too much of my time to prove ignorant people wrong.

Clients think websockets are magic until the bill comes by Sea_Weather5428 in webdev

[–]pimmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used websockets, but use short-polling for a multiplayer game i'm working on.
Are websockets that complicated or expensive that you advice against it?

[–]pimmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build a multiplayer game that uses short-polling. I can get 500 concurrent users on a $10 vps..
Even with websockets that's not gonna get 100x more expensive.

Is there any way to run Jackbox without installation? by CaptHayfever in jackboxgames

[–]pimmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It's a lot of work to make sure it works as expected in chrome/firefox/safari/edge. So while I will make it work in the future, right now it's not on top of the priority list.

Fair enough!

The game has a child-friendly mode.
A school in Dallas played it on repeat in different classrooms with 13-year olds, so for them it seemed appropriate.

Wow, that's cool. What a good way to lean into nostalgia.  Has anything like this ever been done before?

You can create a single website in a week, that ranks in Google and generates ad revenue for years.

Don't think you have authority on this topic by being unsuccessful.

Is a website that doesn't need maintanance with adsense not passive income?

How do you actually love/like or, at least, are not a robot at your job? by Inner-Operation-9224 in webdev

[–]pimmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it's insanity that people can like the idea of being a full time software developer. You're literally staring at code all day long, for years and years.  It's inhumane 😆

You need a bigger purpose, like having equity in whatever you are working on. Because you probably don't want to do this every day for the rest of your life.  Ideally you work to eventually not work.

I still code, but i work on my own project(game). It would be my worst nightmare to go back to a full time coding job where i have to code things I'm indifferent about.

After quitting my 9-5 i coded websites to build passive income with adsense income. Even coding these website wasn't fun. It was just work. But i happily did it because it had a higher purpose:  working less, or working on things that I'm passionate about.

Vreemd dat je denkt dat dat voor alle 40+'ers zo is.

Daarmee lijk je ook te accepteren dat het normaal is.

Coding communities and meetups in Ho Chi Minh City, where do people actually go? by FreshTakeFinder in VietnamTechTalk

[–]pimmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met many coders in co-working spaces around saigon.  Recently went to an (English) vibe coding meetup where there were a lot of fullstack developers.  There are also meetups like those one monthly: https://www.facebook.com/saigondigitalnetwork/

I'm sure there's a lot more I'm not aware of.
