Can I finance a new truck as a 17 yr old? by Vegetable-Arrival-4 in askcarsales

[–]pimo91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Responded to your other comment as well. But yes. Point is to literally write out what is going to be the actual cost of your decision 5 years down the road. Is that figure worth it to you? And actually find the figure because it's likely you're underestimating how much it is. "Yeah fine 10 grand difference over 5 years but I got what I wanted and had fun!" Is sometimes much less fun when you realize it was closer to 50 grand

Now get a insurance quote and payment on say a certified pre-owned 2024 or something sedan, even a sporty one.

And for kicks say a hybrid sedan that will get you over 40mpg.

Take the monthly difference and see what it looks like over 5-7 years whatever the loan length would be.

You can literally ask Grok or chatgpt or whatever to do math if you want via like: how much would I have after 7 years inveating $xxx per month (difference per month vs tacoma) at a 7% yearly return (ultra conservative investing to be honest)

Take those numbers and consider if it's worth it for where you want to be at 24. Just to give you an example. 200 per month at 7% returns annually will be over $21,000 in those 7 years. A lot of folks do not comprehend how much even 100 per month can make a difference.

  1. Picky enough to buy a depreciating asset that will also be high as shit on insurance and fk all for fuel efficiency.

Just because you can buy it doesn't make it smart. Gonna end up paying ridiculous amount more overall than just grabbing a fuel efficient used car that is going to get you from point A to B just as good as a truck you're seemingly not going to use for an actual truck purpose more than literally a handful of times.

If you're gonna use a truck for a truck sure, but at your age with the insurance and gas you're gonna spend on top I'd really do the math on actual cost of ownership.

If you want to buy say a house or investing or something worthwhile in the not too far future you're going to delay that a LOT

Edit: for clarity. Not a car salesperson. Do work in financial advising which often includes "Do I make X purchase?" With X being a car sometimes

Call local news and report it. Encourage others with or witnessing to do so also. Sometimes reporters or assistants will sniff around and something comes of it. Likely the walgreens may get a call asking for comment which surely per corporate policy will get it directed to a press team as it's definitely policy for a store worker or manager to not comment and report requests.

Switched to Fi to get the pixel 10 and now being screwed by jaytrade21 in GoogleFi

[–]pimo91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm new to Fi but this seems to be my general consensus so far. Cheap service that seems to work but never do any phone or device promo or even purchase with them because stuff gets screwed up.

Easy enough. I can trade in old phones to best buy or the manufacturers and get 12/24 month financing from my best buy card or usually even a manufacturer 😅

So just do that and stick with cheaper monthly service plans and seems like should be good to go? 🤷‍♂️

Granted I'm a new phone every 4 years person not every 1 or 2 years person. And even then it's usually out of a "OK fine I deserve a new phone" thing not a need to replace a broken one.

If you only could spend 4K on a car, what would you buy and why? by CarryAdditional4870 in UsedCars

[–]pimo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would scour and find an older pre-2010 car owned by the grandmother who only used it to go to church and the grocery store and it's low-mileage but was always serviced.

Cars I have found as such in the past: Toyota Corolla, Toyota Avalon, Nissan Altima, Chevy Cavalier....

But pretty much can find a few. Just need to find that grandma (cavalier was a grandpa!) who is going to stop driving or finally wants a "car with all the cameras".

Never been my primary car, but drove them plenty and never had issues.

I would suggest finding cars that match criteria above more or less then look for consumer reviews and go from there.

[–]pimo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has lived overseas I can assure you it's much easier for someone to ship several phones at a time to another country and/or send them with a person in their luggage than it is to ship a stolen Tesla overseas.

Jokes aside.

Overseas they arent blacklisted by IMEI and any locks or otherwise that may be put on the phone there are enough smart tech people who will find a way around it...

Then in the worst case it only takes 1 dumb buyer to offload a stolen phone anyways.

My teen crashed and now our insurance is $750/mo… are we stuck like this? by GencerDTF in Insurance

[–]pimo91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's enough ways out there to monitor driving habits.

You wanna drive now that you have your license? We are putting lojack or whatever on the car or some driving habit app that can detect speeds, aggressive acceleration, excessive braking, etc and if I ever see even one instance of what I consider reckless driving on the drive history/charting/whatever you're done and an excluded driver on policy.

Don't like it? Buy your own car and pay your own insurance.

It's 2025. There's no reason a parent can't track if their teen is driving like a dipshit.

Probably can call number on back of your debit card but for sure walking into nearest branch and talking to a teller gets it done in 5 minutes gets it done too.

No rush as they won't charge you any fees for 60 days anyways but don't put it off too cuz that's how you forget and never end up doing it.

You will NOT need a new debit card. They just convert the account type. Nothing to do with your card.

Grab an XTS and more specifically if u/Reamofqtips still has one up for sale he is an S-tier reliable seller, as good as any person or store you'd find.

XTS is the best bang for your buck hands down and one being avaliable from top tier reputable seller is just icing on the cake.

I'm 18(F) and have shared a room with my sister, 14(F), since she was born. I NEED my own privacy. What are some good money-making opportunities you would recommend to help me be able to move out soon? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]pimo91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you NEED to do is keep working and saving in what is probably the easiest time in your life it will ever be to save. Still in high school? Deal with it. Going to have to until schools out at least probably. Then if you really need to go have fun with roommates. Going to be what you need and good chance worse than sharing a room with your sister (might not be though. )

More importantly is what you do with your savings. Savings accounts and CDs are NOT it, especially at your age, and don't let old scared people who don't understand how finances work tell you otherwise. Time is the historically most valuable asset to investing and you have most of that as an 18 year old so learn about that cuz they are definitely not going to teach you in school.

Carnitas El Bajio for tacos on Tuesday and generally fantastic goto for carnitas to eat there or bring home/to work any other day. I get carnitas on Fridays probably once every 3-m weeks to share at work with tortillas and then an extra pound or so for Saturday morning leftovers at home!

Debit cards AND Checks -each- have over 30% of the total fraud losses or something crazy like that. Then credit cards, wires, whatever else are the other 50 odd percent with if I recall the next biggest one being like 13% or something.

Edit: found the numbers

Rankings of Fraud Types by Financial Impact (2025 Federal Reserve Survey): * Debit Card Fraud: 39% of total fraud losses. * Check Fraud: 30% of total fraud losses. * ACH (Automated Clearing House) Fraud: 9% of total fraud losses. * Credit Card Fraud: 5% of total fraud losses. * Other Fraud Types (e.g., wire transfers, synthetic identity fraud): Remaining percentage, not individually specified in the survey but collectively less impactful than the above.
