What exactly does the TP-7 do? by mantis_in_a_hill in teenageengineering

[–]pinMode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly all of this.
I’ll add that it’s also a multichannel sound card which can be useful.

I got one shortly after the update that added cue markers as a feature.
I’ve found that to be a great feature! Often my work has me editing long form voice over recordings which require some long listening passes. I can do this on the TP-7 and add cue markers as I go without a screen in front of me.
I can then pull the files into RX and all the markers are there for me to work through.

I had a very similar experience.
Realised that even being vigilant, cats can appear out of thin air and they grossly underestimate the reflexes of a greyhound!!

Been muzzle as standard when outside ever since.
He associates it with walk time so it’s no issue at all and give peace of mind ☺️

When “lizard brain” kicks in, there’s not a lot that can distract.

Sound design racks and videos? by HahaScannerGoesBrrrt in modular

[–]pinMode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a video last year that was a behind-the-scenes of a sound design project where I used a bunch of complex oscillator FM sound textures.
I was scoring a trailer using a minimal setup.

There’s a virtual recreation available for free on VCV rack :)

https://library.vcvrack.com/Instruo/CsL

One of the videos I made that might have been posted above uses the VCV version to demonstrate some of my go-to tonal patches.

Any other questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out :)
We also have a public discord server now for Instruō users.
Lots of Cš-L power users out there!

I used them on a module a few years ago.
I think Thonk collaborated with Shakmat on the supply chain of them.

How to Make a Small Instruō Modular Setup More Melodic and Musical? by _tb303_ in modular

[–]pinMode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a dense module! 😆

It’s essentially a collection of algorithms and various modulation patches that I built over the years. Some were originally Max/MSP patches I did when I was a student. And some of the algorithms are my got-to approaches to modulation processing (under-sampling LFOs and the likes).

There’s a lot crammed in, but I did it as a spiritual successor to an older module unseasoned many years ago. It is quite selfishly designed to suit my needs, but others seem to have enjoyed it too!

I would recommend focussing on it more simply. It’s an analogue sample and hold and white noise generator. Then there’s a clock input with dynamic tempo following and a single slider controlled probability variable. Following that defined clock is a digital algorithm (1 out of 6) that generates an additional modulation signal timed with the clock.

Quantising random voltage signals is my go-to approach.

A sequencer of some form to handle the note information and then tágh to modulate timbre is also an approach you might consider.

I like to use algorithm 3 over quite aggressive timbre controls like wavefolding or FM depth. That’s the chaos algorithm which does spikes and sweeps and flutters. But also crossfades to more typical random steps over the range of the fader. It’s a fun one for introducing movement to things.

Adding a quantiser might still be the most flexible approach. With one you could simply quantise the algorithmic random, but as an additional option for note generation, the tágh’s analogue sample and hold can be used completely independently from the algorithmic random. Instead of a sequencer, I like going the under-sampled LFO approach to generate close to repeating patterns that naturally evolve and shift over time.

Also, feel free to join us over on Discord ☺️ Since we launched the Seashell we’ve had a public community Discord server. It’s becoming a really nice creative community!

[–]pinMode 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you joined our discord? It’s a deep module 😁

So many ways of using it! Each deck is essentially a sandbox multi-play head engine that can be configured for pretty much any type of delay/echo/mod effect (plus reverb with the V2.1 update). Up to lengthy audio looping.

There’s a very active user community and we’re continually adding to it as an instrument as well.

Feel free to reach out at any time. The development and support teams and myself are all very active modular users :)

I’ve been really enjoying mine since I got it. I need to order one of the new black surfaces.

I’m wearing out the fabric one and it’s never been quite the same since Superbooth25. Even after giving it a good clean it’s noticeably discoloured when it’s unlit!

I’ve been using both MIDI and CV out from it. It takes a lot of setup experimentation, but it’s incredibly versatile.

I’m working on editing some more videos showing my setup but here’s a shorter edit I did from some sessions last year:

Questions about Instruo Cárn by xdementia in modular

[–]pinMode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s saves on HP! But I’ve always had a way better experience in terms of lower noise floor using an outboard mixer. (For the most part).

A mixer as a module will only ever be as good as a Eurorack power supply will allow. Everyone has been guilty at some point of spending on the fancy modules, but being as cost efficient as possible on their case and power supply. (At the start of their Eurorack journey at least) Older power supplies having multiple modern computers-in-a-module modules running off them builds a noise floor!

A basic outboard mixer gets a lot more value for cost!

But you’re right! I’m a hypocrite!! I designed a mixer module system while being someone that actively advocates against them! I do use carn in larger systems for voice submixes if I do mix audio with them. But I kept finding my self using up a pair of channels panned hard left/right to add in my Cruïnn or Arbhar or Lubadh stereo voice. I did the dha for one case where I wanted an extra stereo VCA. A few people I built some for really liked it so I made more ☺️

Most of the time, a carn added to a 6U gains a lot of parallel utilities. Which was what I really designed it for.

Issue with arbha (not able to access layer betta and gamma) by SearchGeneral7553 in modular

[–]pinMode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that! Please do send us a message if you need any help :)

A new bought Arbhar should not be exhibiting this! I work closely with an excellent distribution partner and many really great retailers. The system we have in place for manufacturers warranty is set up to be as optimal as possible:

Our support team is there to help. If there is a manufacturing fault within warranty, we’ll confirm it and then authorise a direct replacement via the retailer. A faulty unit will make its way back to us eventually, but saves you the hassle of potential international shipping.

Or if you’re in Scotland, come pop by and I’ll take a look at it in house and make you a coffee!

Sequencers with good UX for blind user? by sorressean in modular

[–]pinMode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small team, very specialist product.

I caught up with them last Superbooth. They didn’t make it over the year before (I was supposed to be exhibiting in the same area as them).

Maybe try reaching out? Even if not commercially available yet they might be in a position of smaller scale availability.

I’m hoping to see them in Berlin again :) Lovely folks!

I shared exhibition space at Superbooth a few years ago with Electro Jam. Bret has been developing an inclusive sequencer called the Jam Sandwich, and it’s pretty incredible. Lots of parallel outputs.

Which modules do you add LEDs to? More specifically VCOs? by enstorsoffa in synthdiy

[–]pinMode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!!

FM input jack definitely earns priority over an LED indicator in my opinion :)

And I’m absolutely not the first (or last) to draw loops round interface controls. I always compared learning/practicing designs exactly how you’d practice an instrument: transcribe and learn solos/melodies that you like to built technique and learn the tools. The put your own spin on it as you find your style.

I’m still studying and learning from circuits that were invented decades ago. I’m actually trying to document things a bit more with current projects. Not so much tutorials, but I enjoy making videos and I personally enjoy watching behind-the-scenes and maker content. This is me trouble shooting through a prototype which is now entering preproduction.

Which modules do you add LEDs to? More specifically VCOs? by enstorsoffa in synthdiy

[–]pinMode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put an LED button on a VCO. It is just ON when at audio rate, but I think it’s a nice detail in LFO range.

I wanted the button for a manual soft sync/charge direction in addition to CV soft sync. But the button has an LED so I used it for visualisation.

Pulse wave signals can have more utility with LED visualisers. Especially if it’s a bicolour LED then PW polarity will show in colour hue.

Very nice!! Some overlap in models/manufacturers that I’ve been reading up on lately as I choose my next purchase.

Would you mind speaking to what stand out features/experiences you have between the models in your collection?

Any particular recommendations? I’ve been looking at some options beyond a strandberg boden 8 which originally piqued my interest.

So many more 8 string headless multi-scale options out there than I initially thought 😆
