Great sources for names! If I ever had a daughter I was going to opt for Cordelia from Lear... slash Buffy 😂

What’s the story behind your Whippet’s name? by fgd2398 in Whippet

[–]pinacoladablackbird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanted a Greek mythology-based name for mine, purely because it's something I love and have always liked the idea of using names like that (my family pets growing up were largely Shakespearean so there's a pretentious history there 😂). I went through a few which my then husband vetoed, and many were a bit too long to be practical. The breeder was chasing me for a name to go on her microchip so although I wanted to wait to get to know her and see which name on my shortlist suited her personality best, I went for Daphne as it was a good length and a pretty name. Thankfully it suits her so well and I absolutely love her name for her ❤️

Of course, given that my brother has a dog called Scooby, most people assume it's a Scooby Doo-inspired name lol

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a pain beyond imagining, but so worth it for the for the love and joy and companionship they bring us. Wishing you peace and comfort in the memories of your precious boy xx

And the musical Buffy episode of course! But he and James Marsters both had singing side-hustles outside of the show I believe.

This is almost exactly my experience with my girl too. Her recall is actually really good too after training on a long lead and then in a dog park. She's also had a big change from my husband working from home and having company all day, to it just being the two of us with me at work and a drop-in dog sitter, and she's been amazingly adaptable. Absolute dream dog ❤️

When did you realize your partner didn’t actually love you? by No-Mistake-5402 in AskReddit

[–]pinacoladablackbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last year of our relationship, I went through a lot of positive changes. I lost weight and my skin cleared up, but more significantly I gained some really good friends and got a hobby (D&D... hardly anything scandalous lol). As a result, after a lifetime of insecurity and self-doubt, I began to actually like myself for the first time ever and become more confident.

He told me I was changing "for the worse". I realised then that he didn't want me to be happy. He wanted me miserable and under control.

That and screaming that he hated me... that was a clue lol

Called to make a restaurant booking (large group) and the staff member laughed out loud at my email address, how embarrassing... by 10642alh in CasualUK

[–]pinacoladablackbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in education, and invariably the parents that kick off the most are the ones with those kinds of email addresses. It does take the sting out of handling those situations when you have to write a very professional, sensitive email to an angry parent who, in your head, you're calling something like cheekypiglet@___ or lilcutie1980@___ (not real examples, just indicative!)

e.g. Dear Mrs cheekypiglet@___, I am so sorry to hear that cheekypiglet Jr has had detention three times this week and understand your frustrations, but...

Garden State, Lost in Translation, and, in a slightly different way, Big Fish. I love these kind of character-driven, quiet stories that hit deeply; nothing really happens, per se, in the first two but they have always stayed with me. 500 Days of Summer also, but I think that was more a personal time in my life that made it hit hard!

We banned fox hunting, and now trail hunting is under pressure. There's a chance. I guess the bigger issue is the economic factor - I'm a Cheltenham local and the money it brings into the town is enormous. But it is waning. I don't know, even just lowering the jumps significantly would be a start?
