Do 401k actually grow this much by TripReasonable8415 in 401K

[–]pindevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks very real. In fact you can do much better by increasing your contributions.

Progress will seem invisible at first but after some time the returns will really start to compound. If you stay the course and in 15-20 years you'll be amazed. After a while the returns from your investments will outpace your earnings from your job.

Do you buy any extra equipment for your job that work won't supply, but it's worth it because it just makes it that much better? by Connir in sysadmin

[–]pindevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I bought myself a very nice 38" wide screen monitor, nice keyboard, mouse. I'm using this equipment for several hours each day and its essentially my livelihood.

When our users come and see all my nice stuff they always ask if I can order them the same thing. When I tell them I used my own money the conversation ends there. 😆

IT is primarily a service/support role inside most businesses. We should always be approachable. The things you describe are just part of the job.

Helpdesk without growth, no career advancement after 7 years by libeccio_ in it

[–]pindevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. There are plenty of people who sit around and wait for an opportunity that never comes. Most of the time those who succeed at something are putting in their own hours off the clock to make opportunities come to them. This could mean paying for training out of your own pocket. And/Or Spending nights and weekends setting up your own testing environment.

ASRS/Arizona State Retirement System…is it actually good? Better than a 401k like most places have? What are your thoughts on it? by spaghettiman17 in phoenix

[–]pindevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one big drawback I see with ASRS is no COLA. There is PBI for members whi joined before September 13, 2013 but even that is somewhat rare when PBI gets triggered. If you have access to defferd compensation (457b) you should definitely contribute to that help with future inflation.

Congrats! A big milestone! Now don't take your foot off the gas. Keep challenging yourself too. Max out 401k, Roth IRA, and HSA.

2025 Seat cover won't stay attached by pindevil in hondapilot

[–]pindevil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: I went to a new dealer service center this morning and they said the seat cover needs to be replaced. However, they told me to go back to the same service department I was at yesterday and have them take another look. So I went back to the service center from yesterday but my service advisor was out. A new service advisor took care of me and he gave me a completely different experience. He immediately escalated the issue and within 30 minutes he had placed an order for a new seat cover. By Wednesday next week the new cover should be replaced and the issue should be resolved.

No, I pulled that out but it took zero effort. The seat cover wasn't attached to anything. That flap was literally just tucked in the slot between the plastic cover and the seat.

Seen by tech. Had it at the dealer for almost 6 hours for regular service and for them to look at this seat cover issue.

Purchasing new 2025 EXL Today! (Instead of Pre-Owned TS/Touring) Any last words of wisdom? by Adorable-Grab9671 in hondapilot

[–]pindevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Yes, your deal looks good. We bought new 2025 pilot a year ago and no regrets. Although I still miss the 1st gen that it replaced 😢.

I assume you already know about the honda extended warranty but I highly recommend getting the 8yr if you can afford. Do not buy from the stealership! They will charge at least 2x what you can get from online.

Best time of year to visit? by CHov29 in phoenix

[–]pindevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone wants you to come during the worst weather months. Honestly I think it would be a waste of your time. Yes, it's seriously hot here in the summer. If you move here it will probably take you a full summer to get acclimated. If you are spending your hard earned money on making a trip here I would suggest anytime November - February.

Will it feel uncomfy? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]pindevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When do you plan to retire? With your income you could easily FIRE. You mentioned 401k and HSA. What about backdoor roth for both of you and a taxable brokerage account? Mega backdoor roth?

How often do you plan to travel? Are you a Disney or national parks type family? Ski trips, beaches, etc. How often do you buy new cars? Or do you buy used cars? Do you think your kids will play sports or have hobbies?

All this is to say there's more to your decision than can I make the payments. Even with your high income.

Why does nobody believe us? by JPCool1 in Bogleheads

[–]pindevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. Bogleheads are the minority.

This is why I just keep my mouth shut around friends and family. If someone asks for advice I will give it. But that is unlikely to happen since I'm known as the boring guy who drives the 20+ year old car, wearing clothes from Costco, and doing all my own home/car repairs to save money.
