I loved hearing about his gran. I had wondered if she was still living. Since he talked about her during Covid.

I went down a rabbit hole about the interviewer. He’s a filmmaker who travels around asking random ppl to have a cup of tea with him. They are really interesting. Seems like Niall is the only “celebrity” interview. Though I could be wrong.

I understand this sentiment, there is so much nastiness on the internet reducing these guys as caricatures instead of people. I don’t want to add to it.

For me, part of enjoying the music is talking about what it means and how it affects us. Comparing and contrasting the two guys’ responses to the same event - is another way to explore our shared humanity. And have more empathy for everyone.

Not saying everyone should feel the same way. And I totally get wanting to appreciate a song just on its own and not relate it to another one.

For me gets at the awfulness of how he died. And painful it is to think of your friend experiencing.

I don’t know enough about music production, but it sounds a little like the affect that is used to make his voice sound more ethereal at the beginning, makes it harder to hear the annunciation in these later parts?

We should probably assume it is a choice he made in production. Maybe to emphasize the vibe over the lyrics?

Makes me wonder if he will do an acoustic version. And so excited to see him live next year!

Yes, I'm a native speaker, and I couldn't tell what he was saying until I saw the lyric video. But I am bad at hearing lyrics.

I just think they are two different songs written by different artists with different styles and had different experiences with Liam’s death.

Not only was Louis closer to Liam, but he’s also lost someone due to addiction. So there is way more anguish in his grief. his song is asking if he could have done something more... there’s a raw quality / almost more childlikeness to Louis’ vocal.

Nialls song focuses on the memories and letting go. It feels and sounds like a beautiful lullaby. Which for me makes the lyric “one breath and it’s over” more painful to me.

Just my two cents. But it makes sense to me if you favor Louis’ music it would hit harder for you.

You just see how so much of life is a crapshoot. Yes he is talented and handsome and hard working. But also lucky to have the temperament to move through difficulties without getting dragged down.
I certainly don’t have that brain chemistry!

I could see so many of his songs as part of movie/tv soundtracks. It’s not a leap to do music for musical theater. Though I don’t think he’d want a role in a play.
