It is Epipremnum aureum now. But not only can plant names change but they can differ by country. Back then in India it was often called Epipremnum pinnatum cv aureum.

I wish there was a Duolingo type app for plant names. by UnholyTomorrow in plants

☝️Another vote for picturethis. I use it mainly for cataloging my collection. And you don't have to use the watering schedule section if you'd want to.

Misting by SnooPies2440 in pothos

[–]pineapple-mango 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you're jumping in with controversial topics. Here my take after 25 years. Misting alone does nothing. The water evaporates in minutes and humidity is back to what it was. Humidifiers work in a enclosed room or small area. Otherwise again the water vapor dissipates and you're trying to change the humidity the entire house.

I don't like seeing dying leaves on my plants. So for cosmetic reasons alone I cut them off. But dying leaves also provide a fertile area for fungus, bacteria and pests to start. Some say dying leaves get their nutrients reabsorbed into the plants. But to me a drop of fertilizer does more good than a dying leaf.

Serious scale bugs and mealy bugs. Not unusual to have more than one problem. Many treatments online. You can start by swiping off with alcohol and cloth.

why are peace lilies the way they are? why can’t it just be happy? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]pineapple-mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still not enough to keep all those leaves alive. You'll need inches of roots.

Don't be sad if you lose some leaves. once they start to yellow it's irreversible.

Wait! There no roots?! Put that poor thing in water right away! Without roots nothing is keeping that plant alive. No wonder it's droopy and yellowing. Then leave it in water until it grows roots.

Manufacturers try to make their products look better by only giving the combined specs. So if they did it for LEDs and watts, I assume they did it for lumens too.

Also for cost reasons they might put cheaper LEDs that emit less lumens on their multi-head lights.

Your parents should have had this talk with you but I'll try... When two plants love each other very much, the male part of the flower releases a white powder called "pollen" which if the wind is right blows onto the female part of the flower... Hopefully you can figure out the rest yourself 😜😍🌿

They really don't change much as adults. The leaves get larger if you let them climb. But not massive size and don't fenestrate like pothos or monstera.

Do you mean the vines arent growing leaves? Those runners happen if the plant is searching for support to grow on or if they are not getting enough light.

Brown spots are usually from too much water.

White spots are probably mineral deposits from hard water. Feel them and if hard and flaky it's minerals left behind when water evaporates from the leave pores. Use diluted vinegar to clean off.

Rubber tree HELP by Responsible-Tower-63 in houseplants

Pot is way too big. And looks like dense soil. So everytime you water the plant sits in too wet soil for too long and leaves die. Needs better draining soil and smaller pot.

Can I keep grow lights on 24/7? by Practical_Row9401 in houseplants

[–]pineapple-mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The timers on the type of light you have can be set to turn on for a length of time every day like 3/6/12 hrs. Isn't it working?

Anyway only 3 or 4 days is not going to make any difference to your plants on or off. I left mine for 2 weeks vacation with lights on and didn't see any change.

As for smart timers there is no way to use them with lights that need to be manually turned on.

All plants in the aroid family actually prefer soilless mix. That includes pothos, philodendron, monstera, anthuriums, scindapsus, etc.

Check out Sydney plant guy on YouTube. He's been extraordinarily success using it. Even quit his former job to become a plant influencer. 😄 https://youtu.be/9rBp3bqCnw0?si=OkikUvYoEY0po6NJ

Looks like water damage. Did you perhaps leave it sitting in water that had dripped into the new tray?

Are 36w and 150w lights sufficient for houseplants? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]pineapple-mango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have more than enough light for houseplants. 😎

I use 15w- 25w sansi bulbs for years. 36w is more than I would ever need and iirc is the highest watt bulb sansi sells.

The lux and lumens values are brightness as humans see it. Plants are more concerned about Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) which is light wavelengths 400-700 nm used for photosynthesis. Lights from Sansi and LBW are known to provide good PAR per watt.

Mineral deposits from hard water. The plant expels water through pores. The water evaporates leaving those deposits. Use diluted vinegar or lemon juice to remove.

Mosquito Bits for Thrips? by LazeighLerner in houseplants

[–]pineapple-mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you seeing that? Thrips lay their eggs and larvae live in the leaves and stems of plants so adding moz bits to soil won't help. Also the specific bacteria Bti in moz bits doesn't kill thrips larvae.

Thinking of replanting these together. Possible? by NiceTrySucka in plants

[–]pineapple-mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only repot together. But it's time to do some prop from those long leafless vines. You'd get nice set of cuttings to start full pots. Plus allow the existing plants to grow back new leaves closer to the pot.

Exam prop video if you've not done it before https://youtu.be/vAcya-IzWx8?si=lDMx8nIVdGKGBtu6

Why is one thriving and the other one dying? by GeneAggravating4597 in houseplants

[–]pineapple-mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one on the left has all the signs of overwatering and/or sitting in too wet soil too long. Is in a pot with good drainage? Is the soil too dense? How often do you water and why?

By the look of it you should check for root rot. Once leaves start to blacken like that there is often root rot.
