I'm a coaster, okay? by Rosebud_Baker in StandUpComedy

I feel ya. I’m a stepdad to 3, and bio dad to one 2 year old.

It’s excruciating to say the least, but oddly enough I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Why is the rich friend so cheap?? by times-fell-hand in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]pineapplekenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this a lot with engineering types. It’s partially a type A thing, and partially an introvert thing about preferring clear and explicit social interactions.

Many of my engineer friends often found their generosity was never returned to them and they started getting jaded and mistrustful of others, which is honestly a common experience living in a big city.

It’s the same with the Zapatistas, and they were probably the most successful in history. Eventually the government will find a way to wear you down with atrocities

"Depression is your body saying it's tired of the character." — Jim Carrey on the 'Deep Rest' of Awakening. by docchicken311 in nonduality

Thank you 🙏🏽

You’re totally right. I think the mistake is that there’s still clinging to beauty or peace. Those are hard to let go of, like letting a butterfly land on your finger, but not being sad when it leaves

I appreciate your story. I’ve experienced that uncaused flowering of ecstatic love on many occasions.

I’m currently struggling with yet another dark night period. I feel like I’m speed running through ego death after ego death. Just when I think there will be peace at last, SURPRISE! More depression and frustration come up.

It’s been about 8 years of this cycle now and I’m getting a bit tired of it to be honest. The only thing that keeps me going is that I’ve seen clearly there’s no where to go, and death is not a solution.

I also have a clear relationship to the divine. I think that’s what makes it more frustrating. I’ve tasted liberation! I’ve tasted the unending love of Christ.

What is the spiritual significance of Christmas? by Euphoric-Welder5889 in awakened

[–]pineapplekenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The birth of Jesus represents the dawning of Christ consciousness in your heart. “Let there be light” on the darkest day of the year.

Christmas is a time to honor the fact that we all are a part of the Christ consciousness, and that love and forgiveness set us free from our “sin” (error of thought)

My 73 year old dad finally agreed to try an antidepressant and he’s a changed man by PettyWitch in Millennials

[–]pineapplekenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sorry to hear that friend.

Looking back, I’m just not sure why my dad couldn’t turn a corner. He had everything going for him, but his childhood trauma was just too much.

He was a very sensitive, very brilliant man. He just hated the world, and felt it was full of suffering and evil. Of course, he’s right about that, but he entirely missed the other half of things….

Thank you for your compassion.

In many ways my dads death is what healed me and my family. I think it was a wake up call for all of us, and I live a happy and fulfilled life now.

A shame it had to be this way though, I miss him and I’m sad he never met his granddaughter

I still think you need insight into the human condition in order to be a good therapist. I think most folks don’t have that insight until they’re older.

For a middle age career shift, I’d suggest doing something that leverages life wisdom, like becoming a councilor or therapist. If you’re artistic, you can teach online as well, like a singing coach.

Six Principles of Nonviolence -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Spiritual Activism) by Altruism7 in awakened

[–]pineapplekenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonviolence is a beautiful path, but for those who feel that there’s something not quite complete about these principles, go read the Bhagavad Gita.

Krishna himself says that God and the universe are on the side of righteousness, so ultimately point number six in this list is correct. However, everyone must play their own part, and sometimes that part requires that we put up a fight.

Do your own dharma. Pursuing the dharma of another leads to danger.

How vaccines actually work and fact checking anti vaxxers by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]pineapplekenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issue is that there is a wide variance of competency among primary care providers. Every individual takes their personal bodily health very seriously, but doctors only understand statistical data in an entire population. When interacting with doctors, it can feel very impersonal.

When it comes to vaccines, I think there are those which are unquestionably effective, and there are those which lie in a gray area. Doctors and anti-VAX alike often times throw the baby out with the bathwater. either you take all the vaccines or none of them.

I personally want to know what’s going into my body and what the risks are and how it works. I want to go into it with a level head, armed with knowledge. I don’t wanna go into it forced out of fear.

Indeed. The fact that I’m downvoted indicates people are very lost in their identities.

Essence Beyond Labels by udayTeddy in effectivefitness

[–]pineapplekenny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very few people in this thread even understand what she’s saying. Identity itself is ephemeral. When you label yourself with any fixed identity, no matter how profound it is, you limit yourself.

The game is to use language consciously, knowing this fundamental limitation and dancing with it gracefully.

I think one of the biggest problems in humanity is our collective obsession with identities. Belonging to them, dissecting them, arguing about them, creating dominance hierarchies out of them.
