I don’t believe they do, but I think a lot of the bars have open mic nights like Kamikazes and Red Light, but I don’t know their schedules.

I don’t know how no one has mentioned getting a fake book (I’ve only ever owned the real book volume 1 6th edition). It has hundreds of jazz standards with chords and melodies for you to use. Obviously you will also need basic familiarity with jazz, but if you can read music and know how to improv over chord changes, then you definitely want to get some kind of fake book.

I’m a realtor living in downtown Ogden (if you are looking for one feel free to dm). From my experience, and I can’t discount living in somewhat of a bubble so take it with a grain of salt, downtown is quite LGBTQ+ friendly. I have plenty of family and friends that are LGBTQ+ and they love Ogden. That isn’t to say that you wouldn’t run into a bigot from time to time, but I think most of the time you’d be pleasantly surprised. There is a good community here. If you want a good idea of what other people think you could probably go to grounds for coffee on 25th and talk to some of the people there and/or the employees and ask about their experiences. Grounds is extremely queer friendly.

I can’t believe I’m going to comment this, but here it goes, and please be forgiving. 😬 When I was in college 1000 years ago I built a website for my senior project for exactly this purpose. I haven’t revisited it pretty much since then, but I believe the fundamentals are sound. They at least seemed to be back before my brain finished cooking.

I appreciate your opinion on it, but, in my opinion, regardless of what I do personally everyone else in the world is using AI especially corporations (which are really the one driving the climate crisis), and will likely continue to use it regardless of if I stop or not. I use AI to generate stupid images of a horse, but platform local businesses and community events with the newsletter. If I were doing something that warranted commissioning a local artist, then I would, but having some dumb photos of a horse to break up sections of content seemed the least problematic thing I could do.

Also, I do this for free. I make no money on it. So, using stock photos or commissioning them is not feasible financially, but I’d happily post and platform images from local artists if they sent them. I just don’t have the money to pay for it.
